  1. Hello! I have been admitted to Psy D program in school psychology starting this fall and I am extremely nervous about it! How should I prepare myself? :-( Is there anyone with some tips? Also do programs notify their admitted students with a list of other students who will be joining with them? I would like to know who else is in the program yet have no idea how to find it out Thank you!
  2. I guess I was not clear about what I was asking! I meant to say will I have to wait for funding till June I already asked the director and she said she cannot guarantee any source of funding till she finds out later... plus if I already accepted the offer from the school, would patience and waiting be the only way of finding out financial assistance... I hope i made my question more clear now!
  3. anyone out there who is waiting for funding info? should I wait till June to find out?
  4. Yes, I will try if I hear no answer from her today! Thank you!!
  5. Hello, I have recently admitted to one of Psy D programs and I am most likely to attend there. I have sent an email with four different questions which are critical for me to make a decision (funding, contact information of current student, how to accept officially since I am an international student, etc); yet, the program director has not been responding to my email for more than 8 days as of today. I sent another email today mentioning that I need an answer from her asap. If she does not respond, what should I do? What should be my next move? I know they are on spring break but I think it is discourteous to ignore your prospective student's email for 8 days :-( I don't know what to do!
  6. Thank you all! I have sent an email to the program director and sincerely apologized my unprofessional decision to accept their offer and decline it. Thank you so much for helping me to make a decision!
  7. Thank you for the reply! I read it over...and I am wondering if situation would be different if I have not paid my deposit and just sent a written (email) acceptance to the department. I know that I am jeopardizing the department and other applicants by rejecting my offer and you are right that reputation matters in academia. I really don't know what to do...
  8. Hello! I accepted an offer from one of the schools I applied to (MS in school psych) without knowing that I would get admitted to Psy. D program in school psychology. After getting an acceptance letter from Psy. D program, I decided to accept the offer and reject masters program. Psy. D is fully funded whereas MS program only offered me a scholarship (35% tuition remission with GA position). Since I am an international student, I have a limited funding resource and my parents decided not to cover my expenses for grad school. I know that it is unethical to reject the offer I already accepted and I have already talked with program director about the program in details...how can I politely explain my situation and reject the offer? I would like to know if there is someone who had a similar experience as this. Thank you!
  9. Hello, I am getting married the weekend before new semester starts (08/23/2014) and the wedding is going to be outside US. I've already been accepted to two programs and both programs start on the 25th of August (TWO DAYS AFTER MY WEDDING! NO HONEYMOON FOR ME...BOO!!) it is most likely that I am going to miss new student orientation. Do you think it is okay to write an email explaining my situation and see if I can get exempted? I am going to the States for a week in April; do you think I can ask if I can fill out important documents and discuss key issues covered during orientation from the department/ professors instead? The best solution would be changing my wedding date thoughI cannot change the wedding date because of my fiance. He is in grad school and his summer break starts on the 15th of August. What would be the best way to approach this? Please help me!
  10. I just did my interview for MS in school psych...for an hour! on the phone! I was really nervous and it was with one professor ( I was supposed to have two interviewers; one professor did not show up) She asked a lot of questions regarding my research interest and current research experience at a lab which was quite formal. I don't think I answered clearly....and I couldn't smile much since i was super duper nervous about her questions. I am sure she could notice it...argggg! In the end she said I am ambitious and motivated student with a lot of experience and also mentioned I am like a dynamite... and after the interview she emailed me a list of grad school students I can contact and ask questions if I desire. Should I take it as a positive sign or just an offering to every interviewees? This school is one of the schools I really want to attend and I hope to get admitted to the program.
  11. Thank you for the comment! I appreciate it!
  12. Thank you all I emailed them and we are all set to have an interview this week and next week!
  13. I honestly have no idea how to answer research question....do I talk about research design and what else....? Help me please!
  14. Hello I applied to four different programs (MS and Psy D) in school psychology and heard back from three schools for interview. Unfortunately I live in South Korea and cant fly over to the States for interview. Do you think it's inappropriate to ask for Skype interview instead after explaining my situation?
  15. Hello! I am in the process of submitting applications for Ph. D, Psy. D, and MS programs in School Psychology which are all second-tier programs. I have mediocre research experience yet my teaching experience has been solid. Also, I have strong letters of recommendations (though one professor is not from psych department and the other is ph.d. candidate for psych). I am too concerned about my gpa as it is around 3.3 - 3.5 (psych major gpa: 3.68). My gre is :165 (Q), 152 (V), 4.0 (AWA). Should I bother applying for ph.d or psy.d programs due to my low gpa? I need some advice from y'all!
  16. Applying for school/ educational psych ph.d & masters program i need at least 3 LoR and I have asked 1) my lab supervisor where I am working currently as a post-grad intern -- not sure whether she is going to write a "strong one" or not... -- she knows i can do research though 2) my Resident hall director -- I was an RA for more than 3 years & she knows me very well -- expecting a strong letter about my work ethic and commitment -- yet, no reply from her whether she is going to write me one or not (it's been 2 days.. should i wait longer?) 3) ???????????? -- i was going to ask my psych prof and she said no because she has too many to write and she will be on maternity leave next semester................................... -- who should i ask? --------------------------------------------------------------------- 1> Political Science professor -- i got an A- in her class which is decent since she is a very strict grader; it was writing-intensive class and i think she knows me fairly well 2> Math professor -- I was a TA for his classes but its been almost 4 years.... 3> Chemistry professor -- I was also a TA for his classes and its been almost 4 years..He is probably the one who knows my academic ability the most 4> Psych Ph.D student -- I received an A in her class and she knows me well too! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- So...to make a long story short, my problem is that there is no Psych Ph.D prof who knows me well because I switched from Physician Assistant program to Psych in my senior year........what should i do? please help me!
  17. Since im not in the states currently, i asked one of my psych professors for LoR and she sent me an email back saying she cannot write one because she has agreed to write more than 15 recs already and she will be on maternity leave next semester...i cannot think of any other profs to ask for a recommendation letter what should i do? i have four or five to ask for a recommendation letter from non-academic sources and only one from my lab advisor...
  18. applying for School Psychology (both MA and Ph.D) Rochester Institute of Tech, Syracuse, SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Albany (they are not top tier schools) Undergraduate GPA: 3.6 Major in Psychology, Political Science Research Experience: worked as a lab manager for about a year now and had summer research experience (no publications) Work experience: professional teaching experience (ESL teacher) with diverse student groups I took GRE two days ago and got 152 V, 165 Q (not sure about writing yet) I know my verbal score is not stellar and I am just a little bit concerned whether its going to hurt my application Should I retake it? :-( Do I have some chances?
  19. Hello! I need an advice on my SOP because I cannot think of a way to connect my diverse educational background. I first majored in BS/MS Physician Assistant studies (to be a PA) and dropped out of the program right before rotations started due to personal issues. I finished all the didactic phrase well except I failed one course in Pediatrics. At that point, I just felt that PA was not my thing because I was just not eager to learn more about medicine so I changed my major to psychology with minor in political science. After changing to my major to psych, I had plenty of professional teaching experiences and experience with kids and youth. I worked at two different labs, one in cog psych and one in developmental psych. Now, my question is whether to discuss about my PA experience or just leave it out from my sop and focus on my research + job experience. I mean since I did not graduate with the degree, I don't think it would be highly necessary to mention because I might have to explain what my personal issue was...(to be honest, i'm afraid to say it on my SOP) What do you think my best bet is? i appreciate all of your input! plus, how long is your SOP? One of my friends wrote 2.5 pages when my other friend only wrote a page. Just curious!
