  1. Just to add on to the point about searching for informations on dissertations and committee members. Some schools might have an internal repository which contains digital copies of the past year dissertations and thesis. I found one such database in Pitt, and it allows search by department, advisor or committee members. Not sure if all schools have such a database or the same search function, but I thought it was worth a try
  2. Political behavior, American/comparative While writing my SOP, I was having some trouble on whether to put myself into American or Comparative subfield. I have mainly theoretical interest in political psychology and behavior, and would be interested to explore the comparative side of it. Part of my heart is also with the American subfield, but to me U.S. is more like a regional interest, or a case study with abundance of literature. Don't know whether it makes any sense haha
  3. Congratulations to all who have received good news last week! A quick shout out before news for the new week pours in, is anyone here going to visitation week at Pitt? I won't be able to make it, so I really hope to get in touch with someone who will be there. If any of you are, please drop me a PM, appreciate it! Thanks Best of luck for the coming week, everyone!
  4. *pat on shoulder* Probably different country, but similar situation here. But for us, we are both applying for grad school this cycle, and hopefully we will end up somewhere near. The best situation is of course, attending the same school. But that might be too much to ask for.. so the least I hope for is to get in anywhere at all. At least then we will be in the same country, instead of oceans apart.
  5. Thanks for the reassurance Anyhow, it's only the beginning of the long wait. I have two programs only closed their applications yesterday!
  6. Fellow OSU applicant here. I'm starting to worry too. No phone call nor email yet. I was told to stay away from forums for the sake my sanity. But it's hard not to keep refreshing the page haha.
  7. If you won't mind me asking, are you applying to poli sci department or psychology department? I was just confused as your forum status says that you are applying to social psychology. I have applied to quite a number of schools. Minnesota, OSU and Stony Brook all have pretty established poli psych track. Other than those three, I mostly chose places where there are faculty working in related areas such as political behavior, communication, or public opinion ( Michigan, Duke, Illinois and a few more).
  8. Hi there I've applied to Minnesota poli psych. If you are mainly applying to poli psych programs, I'd imagine we have quite a similar list
  9. I had this problem with Minnesota. I called the department and was told that my letter writer can just email the letter in. So I guess calling the department will be the best choice.
  10. Urgh, the application fees.. Since no fee waiver is given to international students, I will be spending one, probably close to two months of my income on applications, GRE, TOEFL etc. As for back up plans.. None. Very likely that I will just find a job and give up on grad school. Given where I am now, there are very limited poli sci related research opportunities that I can get involve it. MA is not really an option because of funding issue. So if I cannot get in anywhere this time, I wouldn't be able to produce a more impressive CV in next cycle to try again. So.. sigh
  11. Why are they the 'mafia'?
  12. The Nov 30th one? American program. Just an early deadline for international applicants.
  13. Hello all, another lurker here I've just sent in my earliest application, which is due 30th Nov. Will do the bunch of Dec 1s in next two days or so. And just realized some programs changed the deadline since last time I've checked their websites, but fortunately all to a later date. So all is well.
