    Postdoc vs TT job

Well, it's not like they give you feedback. Or do they?
  2. Hullo, Been applying for postdocs recently and have found a TT job add in US History (Merrimack, Mass.) and am wondering whether to send an application. But does anyone have an idea of the number of applications universities receive for postdocs vs TT jobs? I also read somewhere that the TT will go to PhDs who got their degrees years ago and who have been through postdocs, rather than those who have just graduated. Thoughts?
  3. Hello yall, I'm getting close to finishing my PhD and I'm starting to think about what comes next. My topic relates to post-WWII U.S. history. I have two articles and five book reviews (two reviews in grad journals) published, one co-authored article in the history of medicine we just sent out, and another that I'll send out within the next month. None of these articles are chapters taken form the dissertation. I've presented at a few conferences and one of my papers got an award at a major international conference (which, I've been told, is a big deal). My topic has received virtually no attention in the scholarship, so the dissertation should hopefully offer something quite new. Finished my coursework in September 2012 and expect to finish by the end of 2015, summer 2016 at the latest. No teaching experience. Been getting a full ride in exchange for some sporadic RA work. I have three more side-projects on the go and already been thinking about and gathering material for a second monograph. I hear that the job market is pretty grim, but I'm not prepared to land in some obscure US/Canadian university and would prefer to stay in Europe (UK, France, Italy, Spain, possibly Germany, Holland). Thoughts? Cheers
  4. Hello, I am in the process of publishing my second academic journal article (going into third year PhD program in history) and (though I might be wrong) the chances are that I can get a fast-track publication in a specialist and interdisciplinary journal that is fairly new, but looks serious. On the other hand, I like the idea of running it with non-specialist history journal that will have a much broader readership. What do you think? Chris
