Congrats! Sometimes things are meant to be.
-
In terms of wooing, I welcome any phone calls to distract me from my job!
-
Look in your Dashboard. Also, there will sometimes be e-mail alerts that you've been googled.
-
Congrats! You must feel such a sense of relief!
-
oh, speaking of googling... apparently I've been googled after receiving my first 3 pieces of news. Now I wonder if that's coming from the Graduate School at OSU, or one of the other two schools that have pending applications. I thought I was done being googled.

goldie, when do you expect to hear from Hogwarts? What's the most generous financial package that they have? Would it be something that Northwestern can match? Wait, Northwestern doesn't have Albus Dumbledore...
-
Vermont. I WISH that they'd offer my language at Mills... I want to be back in California!!!
-
Pulling for you Rutgers wanna-bes! Summer... I hope for Middlebury if they can be super nice to me.
-
Ugh, my bad. Maybe that's why Canadians are rockin', they're better than us.
-
So not doing any reading over the summer. I can't do it anyway as I'll be at Middlebury (at least I hope the $ comes through!). Besides, I do plenty of reading in my subfield at work. My mother's already asking when classes start and finish. Yes, she asked when I'm finishing with my first year as she really, really wants to book a trip to Paris (it was her promise long time ago that if I get a funded offer for PhD, that's my present). She originally wanted to do it this summer but I said no, no, Mom, I need something to look forward to when things get tough in my first year! How are your parents holding up? I'm sure Safferz's parents must be... so over the moon with their daughter's incredible success. It's the American Dream.

Looks like you've got a third waitlist on your hand.. oh this is going to be fun for you to wait until April 15th.
-
N'western, I understand. Berkeley? No, I don't understand why they turned Safferz away. It's the #1 history program next to Yale and Princeton. Berkeley's HUGE loss!
-
Don't be afraid to ask the DGSs how theri waitlists work.
-
You think a prof from Yale saw the board last year and realized what a huge mistake it was? There's still about 20-80 minutes to go in the business dayat Yale...
-
In any case, Safferz, this just to be your best Valentine's Day gift in your life so forth, right? And for anyone else who has received offers from Harvard today.
-
S/he is the hot stuff. It's not just the pubs, or paper, or the languages (though they all help). It's because s/he is doing some of the hottest, trendiest topics right now- Africa, gender, and decolonization. People are really into mid-20th century/post WWII stuff. A little more trendy than my topics.

WELL DONE, Safferz! Now you've cleaned up 4 Ivies.. sure you didn't apply to Cornell? You didn't apply to Brown, too bad. Would've been fun to see if anyone can get in all 6 Ivies that offer history PhD. Keikei, you have quite a few wonderful role models on this forum!

My thoughts EXACTLY. oh, bake sale. Okay, we've got brownies, SmittenKitchne cookies, pupusas, cakes... should we include red velvet just because it's Valentine's Day? How much should they be? Can we do it on a sliding scale?
-
I know. I'll probably have to get used to it, right?
-
I make killer, fudgy brownies. I worked on this particular recipe for 3 years to get it perfect.

Like I said way before, my POI put that down in my SOP- "It's THE Ohio State University.". Ever since, I've been sensitive to that definite article... "I got into THE Ohio State University!" (Or "I got into Ohio State!"). *sigh* I don't know if it's worth the extra breath. FWIW, I'm trying to figure out how to hide my sweats and shirts in the Buckeye land. Take a guess where I did my MA. PM me with your answer.

Cookies, cakes, oh my.... you know, guys, we should hold a bake sale on Gradcafe to help us pay off our loans that some of us may be taking out just to cover some airfare to an archive in the future (or for some of us have student loans already...). Or better yet, start a travel fund for our dissertation research. With all the baking, we should make tons of money!
