  1. Congrats on the internship Lavender. I'm pretty much convinced that none of the schools are gonna take me at this point. Anyone hear anything from Iowa yet??
  2. Just got an update on Julliard. They haven't gotten to the second rounds yet and are hoping to make decisions by May.
  3. TheOtherLily I like your style. Write. Write. Write. bitchez.
  4. Rejected from Columbia woo woo!
  5. Just catching up on all the comments that I've missed. You all are hilarious. Has anyone heard from: University of Iowa or The New School ?
  6. I thought that, but then again.. I've already been rejected by so many schools already. Maybe it just feels that way? Rejected: Michener Yale Brown Still haven't heard from: Columbia (assuming its a no because others have interviews) UCSD (assuming its a no because others have interviews) Iowa Julliard New School If I don't get in anywhere, I'm considering teaching abroad in Korea to quote LavenderCloud/Cheryl Strayed 'write like a motherfucker'.
  7. Haha yes, yes it is. I sent them an angry email back telling them they didn't read my compliant correctly. The whole test is BS anyways.
  8. Haven't heard from anyone except ETS who gave me a bullshit auto reply about how I could have just cancelled my GRE scores. For those of you just joining, during my GRE test the fire alarm was being 'tested' at least five times.
  9. Just got an email from GRE. They've forwarded my case on to the appropriate department. Whatever that means. Looking forward to the bullshit response. I'm terrified of an interview because I have no idea what I will say. What do you think they will ask?
  10. Starsandsound I agree. If age is factored above writing sample, I wouldn't want to go there either. I'm 26 and have been working in TV as an assistant. Most of my work is TV/Film. I'm pretty new to playwriting, but am diving in full steam ahead.
  11. Me too. Condolences.
  12. hahahaha side note: I have a friend who applied to law schools a few years ago. He went out partying to celebrate graduating from college and woke up the next morning at 6am to a phone call from Yale. When they told him he was accepted, he was still half drunk and asked if it was a joke. It was not.
  13. Thanks Rogue. I agree about registering. WGA does register plays and you can always do a 'poor man's copywrite' which is print your material, seal it in an envelope and mail it to yourself.
  14. The update on ETS is that they did exactly nothing. No response. Rejected from Michener. Hoping and waiting that another amazing program is in the cards for me.
  15. I haven't called ETS yet because I'm dreading retaking the test and feel like I just finished the last round of apps. But, I should and I will call them. I just didn't want them to erase my score before the deadlines. Congrats mtabaque! Good luck!
  16. Yep, I'm here! Congrats on finishing and good luck! Where did you apply? I'm sending in my last three this week: Univ. of Iowa, The New School, and Rutgers.
  17. Thanks everyone for the sympathy. I'm definitely going to call up ETS as soon as I get the rest of my apps in. Barista did you find anything out about Brooklyn College? I'm curious too... any programs in New York are definitely of interest. PuttPutt thanks for the info. I'm going to look in to Ohio. I wish I had more of a sense which programs I actually have a shot at. This whole application process is such a shot in the dark. I'm nervous already and its not even close to decision time.
  18. Yeah, I think I am going to call and get a retake.... just dreading the thought of sitting there again and suffering through it. uggg.
  19. Gross. If I take it again, I will probably bring an extra large bottle of hand sanitizer. Got the feeling that everything was covered in a layer of icky.
  20. I took the GRE today and the fire alarm went off in the building about five times. The building was doing a test of their 'emergency systems'. Each time it happened it went on for about five minutes. Five minutes of lights flashing, alarms, and some guy on an intercom telling us not to use the elevators. The test center did nothing. They did not stop the test. They made no announcements. Nothin'. Luckily, I'm applying to playwriting programs which don't take the GRE into consideration as much as other programs, but I'm still pissed! I scored 155 V and 149 Q. I did not study a whole lot, but I definitely think my scores would have been better at deciphering long passages on the oxidation of aluminum if there hadn't been a strobe light in my eyes. At this point, I'm going to let it slide since my apps are due very soon. Anyone else have any crazy test day stories?
  21. So, I took the GRE today and the fire alarm in the building went off somewhere between four and six times! Flashing lights, alarm, intercom announcements.. the whole deal. I guess the building was 'testing' out their emergency system. I did okay considering the blinding light in my eyes 155 V 149 Q, but not as well as I had hoped on the verbal. What do you think I should do? Michener requires the GRE and their deadline is Dec. 15. It's pretty late in the game to schedule another test. My thought was I should just let it slide and thank the heavens that I'm applying to an emphasis that doesn't look to closely at the scores. Still though, pretty angry. Why they don't stop everyones tests when theres a huge distraction that goes on for five minutes is beyond me. roguesenna : Thank you so much! I will definitely pick your brain about the differences! longwalktonever: I'm so glad you love USC!! USC is my alma mater and very dear to my heart. (except when they ask me for donations all the time )While I was there, I got a chance to work with a lot of the actors at the theater school and they were amazing. I also took directing classes from a few theater professors and they were some of the best classes that I took. LA is a great theater city. I think it just gets overshadowed because of the 'industry'. I wasn't planning on applying because I really feel like I need to get out of Los Angeles and see the world, but maybe I will....
  22. Roguesenna, I am applying this season so I hope we will run into each other! The only program I'm applying to for screenwriting is Michener. I went to USC's School of Cinematic Arts for undergrad and have lived in LA ever since. My feeling is that I need to get out of LA and pursue playwriting to broaden my abilities as a writer. Cinema is closely related to theater, but sometimes as a screenwriter we get caught up in writing the visuals. Basically, as a writer I want to be less plot and more character. Many of my favorite screenwriters/television writers started as playwrights and in Hollywood playwrights are actually more well respected than screenwriters. I know it seems odd since most people study playwriting and then go to screenwriting, but my hope is that it will help me grow. Oh, and I love the theater! That too! Good luck with your apps!
  23. Thanks teethwax and roguesenna for the great info! Rutgers wasn't on my radar, but now I'm definitely going to apply.
  24. Hi! I came across this thread since I'm applying to MFA programs this year and am trying to figure out where to apply. I'm mostly a TV writer, but have been involved with theater over the years. Here are the programs I'm applying to: Michener Julliard Yale Columbia Brown The New School NYU Northwestern Considering applying to UCSD, but don't know that much about it. Also don't really know anything about The New School. Anyone have any suggestions of schools to add to the list? Anyone else applying this year?
