  1. So April 15th is finally here, Hope everyone got into a program and/or their top choice! Even if you didn't get into a program at all this year, it's not the end of the world. I applied to programs last year and was eventually rejected from all of them. I restudied/retook my GRE's and redid my SOP for the application cycle this year and got into my top choice! Goes to show you, just because you fail once doesn't mean you can't get it the next time... so try again!

  2. so happy for you!! Congratulations!!

Very big congrats!!! Your first acceptance is always the most exciting! Very happy for you.

Thanks guys!! So glad to be accepted somewhere finally. The last few months have consisted of constant email checking and refreshing of the results page. I'm so glad that's finally over and I can have some peace of mind. The funny thing is, of all the schools I applied to, UCF IMO, has the best I/O program but they're the first to offer me an acceptance. Goes to show you, this whole applicant process can be so random.

  3. My undergrad GPA was 3.68, and my (current) Master's GPA is 4.0. GRE scores were V: 159, Q: 158, and W: 5.0.

FWIW: I also spent a couple of years after undergrad working as a full-time research assistant, and I have a few minor publication credits (a couple of posters, a couple of book chapters). I think this may have been what got me noticed at BG.

It's interesting to see the stats of applicants who are in a similar situation as I am. I've been trying to figure out what criteria(s) programs find to be most important in deciding who gets an offer immediately and those who get wait listed.

  4. Not really sure, to be honest. I think my interests fit as well with BGSU as they did with GMU or UCF. I'd chalk it up to there having been a large number of candidates that applied to each of those schools, and me being lucky enough to have been noticed at BG.

If you don't mind me asking, what are your stats? I also got waitlisted at UCF, I know they're in the process of going through their waitlist right now.

  5. This is what I suspected. I haven't heard anything from them and I have even checked my SPAM folder. I never check my SPAM, like NEVER, but I clicked it on accident one day and saw an email from a my NIU POI about an interview, so now I've been living in fear of an acceptance going to SPAM. So far the NIU email was the only one that was spammed by google.

Anyhoo, I appreciate your information as it makes me more sure that I was rejected by Akron as I suspected. Even if I wasn't rejected, at this point I would probably only even consider them if the offer was epic. I was interested in Akron because Diefendorff is there, his cross-cultural research is what sparked my current research angle. He sort of disappointed me though because when I emailed him last semester to see if he was taking a student, he neglected to mention he would be on sabbatical this semester. Perhaps he didn't know, but when you consider that Akron didn't bother to send out rejections it's extra evidence that Akron is not meant to be. Plus to be honest, while Diefendorff is taking a student, he is no longer doing cross-cultural research so while he has the experience that could help me, fortunately UMSL has people currently doing cross-cultural research so it ended up being better.

The irony, and the reason I mentioned fate, kismet, and The Force earlier is because I applied to UMSL on a lark. That is not to say that it was It was a school I had not heard of, and the only school on my list where no one in my current program knew anything. But I noticed it in previous threads here on gradcafe, so I looked it up, liked what I saw and added it to my list. After being invited to the invite I was put in contact with a student who was very extraordinarily helpful, I can text her and get an answer in minutes. I learned from her who to talk to when I visited and doing that I learned that UMSL really is the best program for me plus it's in a great city for my needs.

It's funny how you mentioned checking your spam folder, I got a call today from a number coming from a state that I did not apply to school in. I was at work at the time and was contemplating on calling it back since I had no clue who it was. I decided to call it back after work and it turns out that it came from a professor at one of the schools I applied to asking me if I was still interested in their program, and if I had received an email they sent to me a few days ago. I told them I didn't receive an email and would check again when I got home. Upon looking through my email, it turns out his email go sorted into my spam folder!!! If my professor hadn't called me, I would likely have never saw the email and they'd probably think I wasn't interested or accepted an offer elsewhere.

  6. Just wanted to let any interested parties know that I've accepted an offer to USF. So I just released offers to Baruch and Columbia (MA), and removed myself from waitlist at UConn, Rice, George Mason, and Wayne State. Best of luck to everybody who is still waiting. And if it's any consolation to those who don't get the results they want this cycle, I applied last year (as a senior undergrad) and got zero acceptances. I decided to spend an extra year doing io resesrch. I was also able to boost my GREs significantly and retool my personal statement. It paid off for me, so if you're really comitted, don't give up!

Congrats!! USF has such an amazing program!

I do have a question, In a earlier post you asked about Albany, did you apply to their program as well? Or have you not gotten an answer from them yet.

  7. Is anybody else still waiting to hear from universities? I haven't heard from several programs and debating whether to just call and ask.

You should probably email them and ask. I contacted most of my schools and got a reply back within a few days for most of them.

  8. It seems like this year has been the most competitive year so far from what schools have been telling me. Most schools I applied to have over 100+ applicants and are only accepting 2-4 students this year. This is crazy!! now I sort of know how it feels to be a Clinical Psych applicant.

  9. Last year, schools either sent me a rejection email or some sort of status notification. I feel like schools are teasing with me this year. Just received an email from UGA to apply for graduate housing, without having received an acceptance letter. Also received an email from UAlbany to check out various websites while I wait for their decisions. Didn't get any emails like this last year, these schools sure do enjoy torturing their applicants haha.

  10. Its seems like the general consensus for psych majors is that we're crappy at the quant section of the GRE, luckily for me, I scored a 163 on my recent test. Trust me, I was completely shocked when the test displayed my score on the screen. I've never been a "good" math student, I failed algebra 2 in high school and had to retake it over the summer, the highest math I took in college was intermediate algebra in community college and I got a C in that class. I took the GRE last year and scored a 155 on the quant section and studied for the GRE for about 3 months before I retook it this year. If anyone is having a hard time with the quant section of the GRE, I highly suggest you purchase Manhattan's GRE guide. It goes over everything I learned in high school and is a huge contributing factor to my most recent score. If I can do it, I'm sure everyone here can too!

  11. Yep, I got a standard rejection email from UCF today. That stung a bit. Oh well, I had 1 interview already last weekend, and another lined up in 2 weeks. Still have 10 other schools to hear from as well.

Hmm would you mind PM'ing me your stats and POI(s)? I'm curious to know why I haven't received a rejection letter yet, Judging from results search of past acceptance, I would be on the lower end of the qualified.

  12. Has anyone gotten a response back from FIU? If it's true that they aren't taking any students at all this year, wouldn't they have rejected all their applicants by now? Also judging from their website, it looks like they added a new professor to their faculty.
