I wouldn't feel too bad about holding onto an offer if I was still waiting to hear back from waitlists. I'd only feel bad if I was holding onto multiple acceptances but in your case, it would really suck if you declined your only offer, then get rejected from your waitlists. Who's your POI at Albany? Mines are Dr. Sylvia Roch, and Dr. Michael Ford but I've only been in contact with Dr. Sylvia Roch.

Yea, I guess being anywhere on the wait list gives us a good chance. Out of all your waitlist/acceptances, which school is your top pick? Either Wright or Albany? Since you haven't accepted at Roosevelt yet?
-
Yes! crossing my fingers for the both of us! Did you find out what position you are on the wait list? Hopefully people make decisions soon, all this waiting is torture!

Anyone still holding onto an offer from UAlbany? If you aren't planning to attend, please let them know! I'm 1st or 2nd on the wait list!

So it looks like Penn State sent out its first wave of rejection letters today judging from the results search. I'm slightly confused since I haven't received a rejection letter yet, I was sure I'd be one of the first ones rejected but it looks like there might still be some hope or they just haven't gotten around to emailing mine yet haha.

Pretty set on the Ph.D. The only reason why I applied to SDSU for their Masters program is because of its location. I've lived in Cali for 8 years and am not looking forward to moving out of state haha but I'd rather move out of state for a funded program than have to take out a bunch of loans to pay for grad school.

Interesting, Albany emailed me like a month after their application deadline to tell me I was wait listed. Keeping my fingers crossed since I got rejections from Wayne state, DePaul, and Penn state/FIU (assumed), and those were the only Ph.D. programs I ended up applying to. Still waiting to hear from SDSU (Masters), told me they'll have an answer by this week.

I got waitlisted at Albany also, do you know what # you are on the waitlist?
-
Nope! it still says that applications are being reviewed on the website
-
So I guess UAlbany has extended out offers to 3 initial applicants, they're still waiting for their decisions and I'm 3rd on the waitlist. People need to hurry up and make a decision! haha

Is anyone here holding onto an offer from UAlbany? There's one person who posted their acceptance in the results section but it doesn't look like it belongs to any of you guys in this thread. Just curious to know since I've been waitlisted for a month and want to know if that person plans to accept their offer or if they are waiting for a reply from different school before they make a decision.

Has anyone accepted/declined their offer at Penn State? It's weird not seeing anything in results search when applicants last year were getting decisions in January.
-
congrats!!

Just got notified this morning from SUNY, Albany. They have had the strongest pool of applicants this year and I've been put on the waitlist. Crossing my fingers here!
-
Do you know how many offers they sent out? and if they've also sent out rejections? Cause I've gotten neither so that probably means I'm on a waitlist.. :/
-
Thanks! I sure hope so haha. Who was your POI at PSU?
-
Yeah, just DePaul and Penn but judging from some of the invites you are already receiving, your stats might be significantly higher than mine haha.
-
What are your top schools?
-
Thanks! and good luck to you as well!

Finally submitted the last of my applications, now it's time to play the helpless waiting game and freak out when results are posted hahaha.

Do grad schools look at undergrad prestige?
phatlilpanda replied to phatlilpanda's topic in Applications
Another reason why I ask, if adcoms are looking for students who have research experience, would they be more likely to pick someone that went to a research university (UCLA, UCB, UCSB....etc) vs. a state school (Cal State's) since UC's more theoretical vs. CS's which is more applied. -
I've been googling this subject and have come up with mixed results. Some believe the name of your undergrad institution does affect an applicant's chances of getting accepted into a grad program and others believe it doesn't change a thing. What are your guy's thoughts on this? Do you think attending a top 10-50 university affect your chances of getting into grad school?

If you don't mind me asking, which school is your top pick?

I guess I might be the lucky one... all my professors sent all their LOR's a few weeks ago.

Hi guys, new to this forum and will be applying for I/O Ph.D. and Master programs for fall 2014! Originally though I'd have a good chance with most of the schools I'm applying for but after looking through last years I/O Ph.D. Application thread, I'm definitely not as confident anymore, especially when competing up against people with +3.8 GPA's and +320 GRE scores, hopefully my research and work experience will make up for the less than amazing scores. Schools I'm applying to are: Depaul Wayne Akron Virgina Tech FIU Albany Penn State (Long shot) SDSU (Masters) Graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Psychology Overall GPA: 3.46 Psych GPA: 3.53 GRE 158V 155Q and 3.5AWA Research Experience: 1 year (3 quarters) working as a research assistant in an applied research lab, and volunteered in a program that taught grade schoolers about mental health disorders in various schools in my area. Work Experience: I've worked various jobs throughout my time in college, ranging from retail, to food and hospitality. Simultaneously balancing workload between school, and work will hopefully make up for my less than stellar GPA.
