  1. I am currently waitlisted at OSU. Would anyone mind relaying information afterwards (can definitely PM)? Thanks!
  2. Hopefully, all of our waitlists will convert. We only need one!
  3. Me too! What is their area of focus? I'm holding out hope, and I'll be sending positive vibes their way!
  4. Yes, that's what I want to do with my first choice as well. I responded immediately following the initial e-mail, but now I'm twiddling my thumbs. Don't know what to do on that front. BTW, UT Austin is a fantastic school; I did my undergrad there. -Not meant to make you feel any worse though.
  5. Are you more excited about your waitlist options, or your acceptances (once funding decisions are made)? I applied to 10 schools and have landed on four waitlists. FOUR! I am that mediocre. However, I'm grateful to not have been completely shutout as I figured I'd be.
  6. I don't know about all of you waitlisters (where are y'all?!), but I'm currently negotiating my waitlist options. They are all scrambling to meet my needs. Seriously, I need some people to vent with before I start divulging to random posters that their prospective programs are notorious for throwing Goldendoodles out of car windows.
  7. And of course, this is not specific to CC students. My partner teaches at a top university in Indiana, and he had a student once who failed to capitialize a single word. Zero capitlized words in their entire essay! He ended up circling each word, and wrote, "Huh" at the bottom of the first page. But yes, the environment certainly varies.
  8. I mostly lurk on these forums, but I just wanted to say that I'm really pulling for you. I hope things work out with the rest of your schools. My partner is in a PhD program in Indiana, and we've had the same heated discussions about relocating. He thinks I'm silly for sympathizing with anonymous internet users, but I can't help but root for the ones that 1) know how to spell (yes, it's pedantic to judge random misspellings by users who are probably typing from their phones, but whatevs...) 2) share similar problems. Now, back to my lurking.
  9. Yep, I'm in a similar situation and feel your pain. I am currently waitlisted at a couple of places (with the possiblity of more waitlists), but I'm trying not to get my hopes up in case I end up rejected. I applied to 10 schools this year, and I tried to cast a wide net as far as applying to schools outside the top 20. However, you bring up a valid point, in that a lot of these schools simply lack the funds to accept a sizable class. I didn't think I had a chance at my top programs, but those were exactly the ones that waitlisted me. If I do decide to do another round, I'll stick to programs that not only match my interests well, but are capable of letting in more students. And I'll talk to the professors beforehand... Definitely. But I wish you good luck on the rest of your schools. -We applied to a lot of the same programs.
  10. I noticed that there were a couple of acceptances on the board for University of Illinois--Chicago. Can anyone here claim one? Last year, they sent out rejections and the acceptances on the same day, but my status has yet to change.
  11. I believe that I was "shortlisted" for funding, and that they would accept me if a teaching associateship became available. I was a bit confused at the time, and have yet to contact the DGS. I assume that I'm waitlisted, so I can't help solve any confusion for those that were outright accepted, but yep...confusing.
  12. Too bad they forgot one. Ah, sigh. Michigan was my first choice (working with disability theory), but alas. I have a couple of waitlists, a few more schools to hear back from, but I'm really, REALLY freaking out. -As I know everyone else is as well. I just wish I could jet off to Turkey for the next two weeks.
