  1. Hi Everyone, I'm curious: has anyone received a funding offer from Loyola? I'm still in this weird limbo of having been admitted by the graduate school but not made an official offer by the department. The graduate school keeps mailing and emailing me a bunch of stuff, which only aggravates me without knowledge of any funding offer. If anyone out there has more information on what's happening at Loyola, please do share.
  2. Awesome! Thanks for these responses and the details from working with the DGS. Being on the waitlist at Vanderbilt is such a sweet uncomfortable place to be that I have to be prepared to make a last minute decision--that is, possibly turn down other solid offers and accept Vandy's perhaps as late as April 14th. Given their recent faculty acquisitions (those folks can't be cheap) and the apparent influx of cash for graduate students, it seems that their claims to become even more formidable may be true. Although, it still would be nice to have their placements in writing. Even if their statistics are only now on the come up, I wanna know their history! I'll be grateful for any more info that's out there.
  3. Does anyone out there have Vanderbilt's placement statistics? They don't post them online...don't really give any indication of their %'s or even any examples of strong placements. Curious. Any links or info out there? Thanks!
  4. The grad assistant at Northwestern told me that they prefer both Verbal and Quantitative at 700 or higher. Their website mentions a target score of 650 on the Quant section. So there's one school that does care...just enough to maybe make it worth studying for.
  5. I'm in the same boat as you, Jack: admitted with an MA but no word on funding yet. Just a couple letters from the graduate school and the dean. I spoke with the DGS over the phone several weeks ago and didn't leave the conversation with any hard numbers, just a hopeful hint that something more than what they have listed on the website might be available. Looking at their section on funding, it appears to be 14,000/yr for three years, but I really, really, really hope that it works out to be more than that. It would be nice to know up front that dissertation support (in $$$, of course) would be guaranteed for the last year. Hopefully they'll put out these details to folks soon. Real soon. Any knowledge of visiting days?
  6. Yup, I got the same info! If only that fellowship made for a first-year non-teaching opportunity...quite a few programs structure their package that way, which makes sense to me. If only those damn scientists didn't filch all the cash! Of course, an extra $4K for the first year is a nice bonus
  7. Howdy! I wanted to spark up a new thread on UC Davis to check in with folks about their funding offers. I'm lucky to be among the admits and hope to find out--soon--about those fellowship nominations. In the written offer the TA stipend states a sum of $16,300/yr for five years, teaching one class per quarter. Not too bad. But not too stellar, either, and I'm beginning to think that a proper amount of fellowship money might just be what tips my decision in favor of Davis over other schools with better financial packages. On the phone, the professor who called to notify me of admission said that fellowship decisions would be made shortly (within a couple weeks), but somewhere in one of those emails...it seemed to have said decisions would be made by early March. I haven't heard anything yet and wonder: have any of the Davis admits been updated on their funding packages? I'd really like to know soon, especially before the visiting weekends up ahead where "negotiations" might take place. What a business this is. Congrats to those who are in and good luck to those still waiting!
  8. I agree...it's almost unfathomable that they would wait so long, especially given the visiting dates! After this notice today, I can only imagine that the admissions are going out within the next day or two.
  9. Well, I just got wait-listed this morning so let's assume that notifications are going to start spilling out today. Cheers to the admits!
