  1. Just as a point of clarification, Iowa only offers full funding for PhD admits. A 50% appointment at Iowa (and elsewhere) IS full funding. It carries a full tuition waiver, stipend, and health insurance. The 50% number is based on a 40-hour work week. So a 100% appointment would be 40 hours. As a TA or Instructor, the idea is that you don't work more than 20 hours a week, and that is where 50% comes from.
  2. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I, too, will be visiting—but not until early April. I wonder if the housing crunch will be on by then.
  3. I just found out that I was accepted at Iowa, and would echo the above questions. Where are good, reasonable priced places to live? Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
  4. The acceptance was me. I got a follow-up email from Dr. Stewart saying that I was at the top of the waiting list, and that someone had just declined a spot. Totally shocked and honored!! Best wishes to all those still waiting.
  5. Yeah, the longer this goes, the likelier it seems that they have already sent out acceptances. I would have expected acceptances to have gone out before waitlists, or at least at the same time. It may be that no one posting on Grad Cafe was admitted—as unlikely as that is.
  6. Thanks for checking. Maybe they are updating in batches, or maybe the post was a mistake. I'd accept my fate if only a couple of acceptances were posted.
  7. Someone posted that they were rejected by website. But, the only MN status checker that I know of is the "Apply Yourself." And, when I login there, it just says: "application complete." Anyone want to volunteer to look at their application?
  8. Congrats on the waitlist. Still, it seems strange to see no acceptances, doesn't it?
  9. So, is it just me, or has Minnesota been too quiet? Their prospective students weekend is March 25-26, so I can't imagine they'd go past this week for notifications. Anyone have news?
  10. Well, to be fair, it doesn't say *how* the offers were communicated, so they could have been mailed, and not quite (yet) reached the recipients.
  11. My status on ISIS did not change. The email didn't say anything about size of entering class or size of waitlist. But, it did seem to indicate that all first round acceptances had gone out: "right now our earliest round of offers has gone out to a small group of other students." It was late when they sent the email. Maybe they still have some waitlists to send out?
  12. So...I got one of the mysterious waitlist emails. Anyone accepted thinking of going somewhere other than Iowa? Right now I'm sitting on two waitlists, and that's it.
  13. Sorry to say that I'm fairly sure they've already accepted and waitlisted people (just not rejected). I'm basing this on: http://www.pw.org/speakeasy/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=226508;page=64;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; A user there, bordercrosser, is reporting a waitlist in poetry to USC's PhD in Creative Writing and Lit. I also applied to USC, and haven't heard anything, so I'm in the same boat as you, I'm just afraid it's starting to sink...
  14. I sort of think there still aren't enough IU acceptances posted. Look at last year, for example—17 acceptances posted. This year, only 3. I bet we'll see a few more in the next day or two.
  15. Completely not worth it! I had to answer like 10 secret questions and enter a four word pass phrase. (But yes, thanks for sharing the link. It gave me a distraction.)
