I've noticed opportunities for teaching Latin at the secondary level. Are their similar opportunities for those of us with skills in Greek? I now have two years of graduate-level training in Koine and plan to have at least two more as I pursue a Th.M. Thank you!

I am thinking about future teaching opportunities after completing a Th.M. My first intention is to use Th.M. studies as preparation for a Ph.D. However,if I am not accepted into a suitable Ph.D. program or decide to not apply, where would I be able to be employed as a Bible teacher in North America? Does anyone know of online listings? I checked SBL, but only found openings for candidates having a Ph.D. Is there another organization for Bible teachers in secondary education? Thank you!

Has anyone on the forum received a written decision concerning Duke's MTS? Has Duke sent status emails, letters, or online updates? Congrats Giraffe and Whubbla on being accepted! Did you post the Duke MTS phone calls on the Results Page, or are those from two others?

Congratulations!

Late Antique and Noble, congratulations! I'm rooting for both of you!

Thanks, lovethequestions, cribro, and Jack Horner! The Notre Dame Department of Theology website announces a MTS admissions meeting on 3/5 (http://theology.nd.edu/404/). It also states the university will be on break 3/6-14, so we may need to wait until the week of the 15th to learn their decisions. Two other schools to which I applied also have the 15th as a committed or target date. Isaiah 26:3 just came to mind.

Thank you everyone for your helpful comments! Do you have any suggestions with regard to computerized flashcards for German? I use GreekFlash Pro 2 for Greek and have started entering German vocabulary. Do you know of a good resource for German electronic flashcards? Thanks again!

Has anyone using the forum confirmed with Notre Dame when they will send out M.T.S. decisions? According to the Results Search, a master's applicant was notified last year on 3/10.
-
The deadline for Duke's M.Div. applications was 1/10, while the deadline for their M.T.S. program was 2/1. Therefore, they are allowing approximately the same amount of time to process the applications of the two programs. The Results Search shows that last year there was a master's acceptance on 3/9. Thanks for sharing that they said this year announcements will be made around 3/15.

Hi, misteroakland. Posters informed about MDiv programs would be more likely to see your question if it were posted in the Religion forum.

Would admission committees view the completion of a course in reading German more favorably than independent study followed by passing a comprehension exam?

HistoryFan, Notre Dame's MTS FAQ page has very helpful information pertinent to your questions, including minimum GPA and GRE scores. It also answers the following: "Q. Is this M.T.S. program appropriate for students with a M.Div. degree? A. Yes. The M.T.S. program will allow students with M.Div. degrees to further their academic training and their preparation for Ph.D. programs. Students with M.Div. degrees are encouraged to apply." http://theology.nd.edu/graduate-program/master-of-theological-studies/faq/ The following thread from last year concerning Yale's MAR and MDiv admission and financial aid may also be of interest to you:

A MTS/MAR program can be helpful after having obtained a MDiv or equivalent studies. In contrast to the focused purpose of most ThM/STM programs, intended to further one's background in a specific topic of interest, a MTS/MAR could assist the student in attaining broader exposure across theological subjects, or more depth either outside an area of specialization or developing new areas of expertise. This could be particularly helpful for students returning to school after years in vocational ministry. For these reasons, a MTS/MAR could be an excellent option for one with an MDiv or equivalent studies, and it could also be very good preparation for PhD/ThD programs.

Congratulations mike.whitenton and johndiligent!

Hi, Jack Horner. Notre Dame updated my application status as "Completed" within a few days of my submitting the M.T.S. application online. You may want to call or write them to ensure that all your materials have been received and processed correctly.

Redreverend, congratulations on your acceptance at Fordham! Thanks for noting that their Biblical Studies concentration is in the Theology Department, which is in Arts and Sciences instead of the School of Religion. I hadn't found it before. May I ask, which do you prefer between FSU and Fordham, and why?

Congratulations on your acceptance at Emory! Thanks for your postings through this application season and updates.

JMR0408, welcome to the forum and thanks for posting!

redreverend, that's great news about your acceptance to the Ph.D. at FSU! Congratulations!

LateAntique, CONGRATULATIONS on your FSU acceptance! I appreciate your posts and am so happy and excited for you!

I suggest contacting the admissions assistant for the department or division of the school that received your application materials. You could ask if you may email your works cited so that he or she could place it with your writing sample.

Hi, It sounds as though Candler is asking for a research proposal. After stating topic(s) of interest, you could name courses that you intend to take as you begin the program, then courses or potential directed studies focused on your topic. You could also name professors with whom you would like to study, and whose instruction and guidance would be helpful to your education and research. The second post on written by mudlark, may be helpful to you. A MTS application would probably not expect the same amount of information and specificity as a doctoral proposal, but mudlark's suggestion could be adapted to fit your purpose well.

Sparky, thanks for your suggestion and description! What amount of German reading comprehension is necessary for the more elementary readings in Modern Theological German? Is it a useful companion from soon after beginning to build vocabulary, or is it best to wait until midway or further through an introductory grammar? Thanks!

I am using the book German Quickly: A Grammar for Reading German by April Wilson to prepare for my new program's German proficiency exam. I am wondering if others here have used it to prepare and, if so, how did you fare when taking the proficiency exam? Did you use other texts to supplement your German reading? If so, which ones? Thank you!
