  1. Life's too short, and if you want to live closer to your familes then do so. It may be harder to get into grad school again, and even harder to find a job afterwards, but it's all just priorities.
  2. Well, I feel like a horrible applicant after seeing all of your stats, but I'm also applying this year, without a whole lot of hope haha. Major: Micro/Molecular Biology GPA: 3.43 (3.6 major) GRE: 1230 (560-V/670-Q) Schools: OHSU, University of Washington, University of Oregon, Washington State University. Experience: 1 year in a biochem lab (non-project, just a job), and a 10 week NIH internship (project-focused, poster presentation, and clinical research shadowing). Most likely applying to dedicated Neuroscience programs, interested in neural development/plasticity/and neurodegenerative diseases.
  3. I just took the GRE this morning, and thankfully I did well enough to where I don't have to retake, and can move forward applying this cycle! I got my verbal and quant score at the end but it didn't mention percentile. Is this included when you get your score mailed to you a couple weeks later, or is there a website where you can plug your scores in to see how you compare? Thanks.
  4. Thanks for the advice and websites, I keep brainstorming a way to start it but keep coming up with nothing. Maybe I'll just write the body first?
  5. I'm applying to biomedical Ph.D programs this Fall and am going to start my SOP soon (after my GRE which is this monday, 14th). I feel like I have no idea where to start or how to write one though. Does anyone have any general advice on how to write one, or websites that could be helpful? For instance, do I... -Detail all my lab experience/research projects? -Make it exclusive to each school I'm applying to by mentioning specific labs/PI's? -Write it as a narrative of why I want to pursue a research career? -Relate a specific area I want to do research in? (Especially since at this point I'm not necessarily sure?) Thanks!
