  1. Mind sharing your concentration? I'm waitlisted at Pitt and I heard there's only one or two positions for people in contemporary so if you happen to be one of bunch of us contemporary people, I'd know I can finally move on! Congrats to your admit! I love their new system of having separate clusters.
  2. Does anyone know well about the CUNY art history program? I would like to hear some insider's opinion in terms of how close advisors work with their students, financial support for PhD students, or just the general atmosphere. I was accepted to their PhD program a couple of weeks back and I am yet to hear about funding decisions. In the meantime, I have another offer from a big state school with an amazing financial packet. I have to make my decision by April 15 (and the CUNY letter said the funding decisions will be made NO LATER than April 15). I know CUNY has a strong program especially for those in contemporary art, which is my area. However, I'm not sure if it's worth the money I'll have to invest even if I get a fellowship because I know it as a fact that it won't be enough to live on in NYC. CUNY seems to have more prestige than the state school I was accepted to, though. I'm wondering if it's really stupid to say no to CUNY in this case...
  3. I'm still waiting on one school. Also, I'm waiting on another one I'm waitlisted at and then there's another one I'm waiting to hear about funding... In the end, I too am waiting on multiple schools I guess. Ah.... April shall come soon.
  4. I see. I knew it was a small pool but one or two people..! wow. Good luck for both of us! is Pitt your top choice or are you pondering about elsewhere as well?
  5. Yup. One of the waitlist post is mine. What do you mean by one or two vacancy? does that mean one or two people will likely decline their offer and free up some space for us? ah.. I just hate being in limbo.
  6. Who else is still waiting on Michigan? I saw from the board that decisions have been made last Weds.? It seems like some people got rejections already so I don't know if no news is good news or not. Also, is there anyone out there planning on declining U Pittsburgh by any chance? I'm waitlisted and the waiting is killing me!
  7. Wow, I definitely wish that is not the case this year..... did you hear about the details of their funding package?
  8. Does anyone know about CUNY's funding system? I received an email that all admitted students will be considered for a very limited number of fellowships. I'm guessing even the fellowship won't be quite enough to survive in NYC? The email says they will notify about financial aid no later than April 15th and I hope they won't actually take THAT long to inform us. I have a better offer (money wise) elsewhere and I hate having to weighing things without knowing what exactly my options are.
  9. Thanks for this info! I saw 3 rejections on board and I was wondering if they already sent out decisions. I guess next week, then.... ah!
  10. I'm one of the CUNY admits too and I'm waiting for the details. I'm wondering about their funding because CUNY seems notorious for lack of funding.
  11. Doesn't that mean you're on waitlist? UMCP rejected me long long time ago (I think around the beginning of Feb.) and I would take it as a good sign if your apps is actually "pending" although they could have clarified it for you
  12. Btw, does anyone know what's going on with Michigan?
  13. So I had to call up Cornell and I was told that everything's already out in the mail and I should be receiving a post mail at least in a week. Ah!
  14. Thanks for sharing this info. I too have crossed Emory off my mind. The professor I wanted to work with is on leave. Anyhow, I hope you get in with funding! Fingers crossed for you!
  15. I am concentrating on contemporary art. My research topic includes postcolonialism & new media theory, and it seemed to overlap with a number of members @ Cornell. Here's hope for both of us to hear good news!
  16. Gosh, I'm so relieved to see this post! indeed, I'm trying to think no news is good news. There's really nothing much I can do about my apps now except wait with hope and faith, I guess. I too am waiting on a couple of schools without hearing a word from any of them yet. As people say, you aren't rejected until you are rejected.
  17. I too applied to Cornell and Emory and haven't heard a word from them. I don't have my hopes up for Emory but I'm desperately waiting on Cornell. I emailed them to ask about my status but didn't hear back, either. Should I give them a call? According to the board, it doesn't seem like they sent out rejections yet, either... oh, how I hate being in the limbo.
  18. Thanks! I'll wait and see. Congratulations again! I too am in contemporary and I can see that your research interest must be a very good fit at UCSD. Good luck on everything!
  19. Sorry this doesn't relate to your question, but I too applied to UCSD for a PHD and have you heard anything about the incoming class? do you mind sharing your field of specialization?
  20. So Cornell started notifying... Congrats on acceptances! What are your field of specialization?
  21. by Chinese art do you mean traditional Chinese art and not contemporary?
  22. Hello all, I know this isn't exactly about 2011 apps but I really need some honest opinions at the moment. Have any of you had a chance to intern at the MOMA by any chance? I am currently out of the country and I will have to move to NYC solely for this internship for its duration, which is 14 weeks. I already have an internship experience with another really famous institution and although the internship wasn't exactly a curatorial work, it assisted me with my research project, which developed into my MA thesis. With this internship experience already on my resume, I wonder if it's worth going into another one given the high cost of living in NYC? I know it's going to be a wonderful experience and some of you might ask me why did you even apply in the first place, but all I can say here is that I've somehow started to feel very nervous about spending so much money on it. As for my career, I think I am interested in teaching but I am open to museum work, which is why I applied in order to find out. But then again, since I am starting my PhD in art history next fall (2011) I keep thinking I would have another chance if I really wanted to. I am so torn! I wonder if I am blowing away a great chance. I am trying to think hard about pros and cons here. Any honest opinion or advice? Thanks in advance.
  23. Thank you so much for your advice, georgica2! I followed your advice and first removed all the figures to fit page limits. Now I'm wondering about schools that required me to send my entire MA thesis. In my thesis, I have about 30 pages of figures and I'm wondering if it's really necessary to color print them. If I just stick black and white, it's going to cost me much less, especially given that at least 6-8 schools are asking me to send my entire MA thesis. Any tips?? Thanks!
  24. OK. So now that I know the page limit, I'm thinking I don't have enough space even for text for most of schools. I am seriously considering skipping the figures since what seems most important is really my writing skill and perhaps not including images won't matter. Any thoughts?
  25. Thanks for your reply! I went ahead and emailed each department. They all seem to demand varying lengths indeed. Thanks.
