  1. I've decided to attend BC, and I can't wait. Thanks for your help, guys!
  2. Hi all, I was recently accepted into the Curriculum and Instruction PhD program at Boston College. I was also accepted into the HGSE Learning and Teaching master's program. At this point, I'm deciding between the two programs. My end goal is to obtain a doctorate, and I'm thrilled to have been accepted into the BC program. I love the school's mission, emphasis on collaboration, and I'm very excited about working with my would-be adviser. Yet I'm wondering (as irritating as the process would be) if it would be worth it for me to attend the HGSE program and re-apply to doctoral programs from there. How much would attending HGSE program increase my chances of getting into a top-5 doctoral program? I'm willing to take on the [large and horrifying] debt from HGSE if it would substantially increase those chances. Any prospective, current, or former Boston College Curriculum and Instruction PhD students have any insight into BC's reputation in the educational community, and the C&I program itself? Or has anyone done the HGSE MA program ---> PhD program route? Thanks, everyone!
  3. I went to a non-research graduate teaching institution and spearheaded a number of research projects throughout and prior to my graduate career. So I think I'm doing just fine on the research front, thanks.
  4. I applied to the Curriculum and Teaching EdD program at TC. Still haven't heard any news yet. I called admissions this morning, and they said I'll hear sometime between now and the end of the month. I am very much over this waiting game . Anyone else encountering similar challenges? Or does anyone have any words of wisdom?
  5. Hi all, Like many people, I'm worried about (okay, fretting over) my chances of getting into a doctoral program in education/sociology for the fall of 2014. I applied to the following programs: Boston College (Curriculum and Instruction PhD) CUNY Graduate Center (Sociology PhD) NYU (Teaching and Learning PhD) Columbia Teachers College (Curriculum and Teaching EdD) Harvard University (Culture, Institutions, and Society PhD) Stanford University (Sociology of Education PhD) I had a 3.97 GPA from my M.A. program in education, but a 3.34 GPA from my B.A. program. I got a 157 verbal, and a 147 quantitative score on the GREs (I've never been a strong standardized test taker). As far as experience goes: I've taught for three years, and have pretty substantial sociology, developmental psychology, and education research experience (all-in-all, about six years of research experience). Can anyone offer some insight into my situation, and what the odds of me getting into these programs are? Also, any clue about when I could hear back from these programs by? Thanks, everyone!
