  1. Did anyone hear back from Wake Forest ever? They've been awfully quiet from what I can tell...

Did you interview there already? I have a friend who was supposed to interview but due to the craziness with the weather the I terview weekend got rescheduled. I'll ask if he ever made it and if so he's heard a response.
  2. Is there a reason you didn't apply to more than 2 schools? Both of the schools you applied to are incredibly competitive to get into. What about trying to find a different company to work for and then applying to more schools next cycle? Honestly I'm not shocked that you didn't get interviews at either school, sometimes it just depends on who is on the adcom that cycle.

  3. Has anyone heard back from BU PiBS after their interviews?  I noticed 2 acceptances on the results page, but was wondering if there were more that haven't posted their results...

I know that the final interview is going on right now. So you should start hearing back from them in like a week or two? I don't know how large the program is.

  4. Do you honestly believe that the PI's whose lab you do not join will remember you 5 years from now? They probably won't even care that you didn't go to their school/lab for your Phd. You shouldn't even be thinking about a post doc right now, have more important things to worry about. Have you been accepted into any of the schools the PI"s are at?

  5. Got my North Carolina itinerary. I didn't get interviews with my top two POIs. The ones I did get are tangentially related to my research interests (they're cardiac, I'm interesting in musculoskeletal dev). One is completely different (cancer), but I'm assuming they're on the adcom? Is it common for an assistant prof to be on the adcom?

Considering I was pretty explicit in my interests in my SOP, how should I approach the cardiac interviewers? I don't want to come off as uninterested, but unfortunately the people I'm meeting with are not my top POIs and I think that shows with the descrepancy in my SOP versus their work.

Finally, there are six scheduled interview slots but I only got a list of five interviewers. Is this common? Will I get a mystery person day-of, or just skip a slot? Thanks a bunch, guys!

Also, if anyone else is going to UNC this weekend, shoutout to you! Hope to meet you there! :)

You are honestly worrying about the interviews too much. You will probably spend most of the time talking about your research. It doesn't matter that you aren't interested in their research, they know that already. Your interviewers have already seen you SOP. I wouldn't worry about how many interviewers you have, I doubt you will get a mystery person. They probably couldn't get an extra person for you. Which honestly is a good thing, its one less PI to interview with.

  6. Hey guys,

quick question for those that are more well informed about the interview process. When I requested to meet with a few faculty members for the interview, a couple of them were on the finalized list whilst 2 others were added. Does this mean that the others I requested are not interested/dont have spots or could it have just been a scheduling issue and I could approach them if and when I get admitted.

    Thanks in advance!

Its usually a scheduling issue. Maybe those faculty were not available on that specific interview weekend. Or they were busy. Just approach them later if you get admitted.

  7. Congrats to you and wolbachia! I was at the same weekend as you but haven't heard a peep. Does that mean rejection or waitlist? I remember them saying they would let us know either way, but again, nothing. :-\

I remember the director telling us that they would be making decisions that day and it would be rolling admissions. So I assume you will know soon enough. Honestly I assume Franz got busy and may call people on Monday or something like that. I got a phone call immediately after reading Ratgirl's post here. My roommate heard back on Wednesday as well.

  8. Potentially, I can get one for UCLA or Brown University.  For UCLA, it is a 5-year funding contingent if I get into a grad program and if the government doesn't weed out funding.  For Brown, it would be a year or two funding program and again only after I get accepted will I be a decent candidate.  I am a little frustrated with UCLA because I thought high chance of funding myself means I would get an interview shot, but I guess I was over my head.

Can you share any details like when is the Brown University interviews?  I applied Dec 1st, so I am a little disappointed I didn't hear from them yet, but I got an email back from them on the 14th saying they have many applications this year and still reviewing them.  I am tempted to call them again.

I emailed Brown MCB today and the coordinator told me all the interviews had been sent out already.

  9. I did a summer internship in there.  Costa Rica is a fabulous place, very eco-friendly, and beautiful blue waters because of the sulfur of the volcanoes.  They get most of their electricity from rainfalls alone too.  I love traveling to new adventures even though I am a molecular genetics/computational biology type of researcher.

I am wondering, but did anybody heard form Brown's MCB?

I know one girl who is interviewing at Brown MCB. She heard back early. I don't know about the rest of us though. i applied and my app was completed on the 14th of Jan.

  10. Any thoughts about this? I received an invitation to interview in the same city where my other two interviews will be held next week. This newest invitation is for late Feb., but I have two free days between interviews next week during which I'll be staying in town. I just emailed them and asked whether it would be possible to interview on those days instead of the official weekend, while making it clear I would be more than happy to come to the official weekend if next week doesn't work. They haven't replied yet, and now I'm having second thoughts. Even if they say yest to working with my schedule, I might miss a lot by not being there for the official event. Any opinions from those of you who've already attended some interviews?

I just had my first interview. You will actually be missing a lot b/c they have events after the interviews are over and that night. You also would have less time to get to know your potential future cohort. The biggest thing is that its going to be a hassle to reschedule the interview just for you. You might not get your list of PI's you wanted and could end up with PI's you are not interested in working with.
