  1. Did you interview there already? I have a friend who was supposed to interview but due to the craziness with the weather the I terview weekend got rescheduled. I'll ask if he ever made it and if so he's heard a response.
  2. Is there a reason you didn't apply to more than 2 schools? Both of the schools you applied to are incredibly competitive to get into. What about trying to find a different company to work for and then applying to more schools next cycle? Honestly I'm not shocked that you didn't get interviews at either school, sometimes it just depends on who is on the adcom that cycle.
  3. Do the programs your are applying to require you to take the subject test? Can you take the general bio test instead? Its much easier and will save you a lot of grief. Google GRE biochem practice test, I'm sure something will come up.
  4. A friend of mine interviewed on the first recruitment weekend and she was accepted this week. They may just be telling people from the first weekend. They might not have gotten to yours yet.
  5. I'm confused. Did you interview? Or are you waiting to see if you will be interviewing?
  6. Does anyone know if UVA BIMS is still sending out invites? I emailed the BIMS department but no answer.
  7. What did the assistant mean by "open"? Are you missing materials from your application. Can you check your application?
  8. I know that the final interview is going on right now. So you should start hearing back from them in like a week or two? I don't know how large the program is.
  9. You shouldn't care about the reputation of the school. What school has more PI's you want to work with? Who did you get a long with better? Which labs are better funded? The reputation of the school should be the last thing you consider.
  10. Do you honestly believe that the PI's whose lab you do not join will remember you 5 years from now? They probably won't even care that you didn't go to their school/lab for your Phd. You shouldn't even be thinking about a post doc right now, have more important things to worry about. Have you been accepted into any of the schools the PI"s are at?
  11. If you are dead set on getting a masters, georgetown does have a masters in microbio. Tulane offers a masters in microbio as well.
  12. You are honestly worrying about the interviews too much. You will probably spend most of the time talking about your research. It doesn't matter that you aren't interested in their research, they know that already. Your interviewers have already seen you SOP. I wouldn't worry about how many interviewers you have, I doubt you will get a mystery person. They probably couldn't get an extra person for you. Which honestly is a good thing, its one less PI to interview with.
  13. Its usually a scheduling issue. Maybe those faculty were not available on that specific interview weekend. Or they were busy. Just approach them later if you get admitted.
  14. Yeah I did. The first round of interviews were the Jan 23-25th. The admissions committee started sending out acceptances already.
  15. I remember the director telling us that they would be making decisions that day and it would be rolling admissions. So I assume you will know soon enough. Honestly I assume Franz got busy and may call people on Monday or something like that. I got a phone call immediately after reading Ratgirl's post here. My roommate heard back on Wednesday as well.
