  1. Foolhardy, OR PhD or Bust, Thank you both for your helpful response. I will consider USC offer more seriously and will try to gather more information to decide between UCSD and USC in the following two weeks. If you or anyone else have other relevant information for this decision making I will be grateful . . .
  2. I prefer California for many reasons some of which I mentioned but I have no real preference between Management and Industrial Engineering. So, I have crossed UVa because of a better admit from USC. Anyway, what are the different situation we get with each degree?!
  3. I have been rejected from waiting list by UCLA and UC Irvine. I have been accepted to Olin business school at Washington University. Now I should decide between theses schools: UC San Diego : University Ranking=39, Program Ranking=73 (PhD in Management) Washington University: University Ranking=14, Program Ranking=20 (PhD in Management) USC: University Ranking=23, Engineering school Ranking=11 (PhD in Industrial Engineering) I have shared Us News ranking information with you to help me decide between above choices. UCSD program is a new program at UCSD and I think that a rank of 73 is not logical for it and it will find its place very soon. This was the first year that UCSD was ranked in business schools rankings. Given that UCSD has admitted me for a PhD in Management and its ideal location in California, I am inclined toward accepting its offer. Now, is my decision correct? Should not I prefer Washington University because of its better ranking? Should not I prefer USC because of its better overall reputation and its good place? I am a little inclined toward a PhD in Management but I am not going to turn USC down if USC is much better! The financial aid offers does not play a significant role here. I prefer to be in California because of its better job market and better environment. The most important thing for me is to find a good job very soon after graduation because I am an international applicant. Please share your insight . . . .
  4. No! You should just email them and ask. Conjecture cannot be always true!
  5. You are right. But there can be a benefit. I can start visa process earlier and avoid any risk arisen from a long clearance . . .
  6. I need a final advice . . . As it is shown below, I have been admitted to some schools in management and some other schools in Industrial Engineering. Should I accept the offer from UCSD and finalize this application season? Or I should consider other schools or wait to hear back from Washington University (Olin business school) or UC Irvine (The Paul Merage School of Business) ?! Thanks
  7. Congratulations on all of those great admits. Finally, which school will you attend?!
  8. I cannot think that a mere question may have negative effect on an important thing like the final decision! Feel free to ask! Your hesitation is just a result of your own stress nothing more . . .
  9. That is true! He is responsible for Decisions, Operations, And Technology Management and they do not reply through other emails. So, there is no other choice
  10. Wait! I first emailed them and then they informed me that I have been wait listed. So do not worry too soon! For UCLA email to guillaume.roels@anderson.ucla.edu For UC Irvine people should email to phd@merage.uci.edu I hope you the best of luck . . .
  11. I have applied for Decisions, Operations, And Technology Management and I have not been interviewed by them. Have you applied for Anderson too?!
  12. I received an email from UC Irvine and UCLA. They have put me on their wait list . . .
  13. The solution may be simple! Just explain your situations honestly. I guess they will understand and extend the time frame for your decision. But what matters is the official deadline for your decision and I cannot think that you are required to decide before April
  14. Most major universities in the US have agreed not to require students to give an answer to admission offers prior to April 15.
  15. I received the email from this address: usci20@usc.edu
  16. Yes, but email to this address: richard@ise.ufl.edu He told me that I will be rejected and that was true!
  17. Well, finally I received my rejection from Berkeley, but receiving a rejection from Florida was not very expected! Given the other offers I would decline U of Florida offer anyway but receiving their rejection letter was not heartening!
  18. I am wondering about this too but I am not very optimistic!
  19. I just received UCSD admit with fellowship. Please help me to evaluate the quality of this program. More precisely, I should decline UCSD offer if receive an offer from which school (listed below)?
  20. Thank you for your comments and congratulations on your great admits. I think you are waiting for MIT but you have received great feedbacks so far
  21. Well, I have published one ISI paper with ELSEVIER and 3 other International Journal papers + 2 book (translation). Also I have 4 years of full time work in a research based institution. I know that professors have recommended me strongly for admission. I have gathered three recommendation letters from three different universities. Two of them from my undergrad and grad schools and the other from the research institution that I am working for. All recommenders are associate professors in the best universities in my country. Also I have suitably described my previous research in my SOP (again from my own point of view) and designated two to three possible supervisors if admitted.
  22. Some admits have been posted in the result page for Minnesota, UCLA and many for Berkeley. For me it does not mean positive. The strange thing about the admits is the fact that my credentials are better than many of admitted people (certainly from my own point of view). The only possibility is that the admitted people have attended better schools compared with mines. I cannot imagine any other explanation! Yet, this is possible to receive my admission later but as the time passes this possibility becomes weaker and weaker . . .
  23. It seems that UC Berkeley is sending some other admits for PhD program today. They sent their first round of admits on Feb. 1 and the result page says they are continuing to admit more students 12 days later. Still I have heard nothing from them, we are close to rejection
  24. I am sure that you will get USC and UNC, Chapel Hill but for other programs you can expect some negative results. But I think that in the end you will receive a decent offer. Also, this is very good that you have heard positive feedback from Michigan. In the case of UT Austin, one of my close friend received his offer on march 5 for their PhD program. So, I say that it is a little soon to tell that they have send out all offers.
  25. First they send out some admits in late January, but they continue to send out more admits until March 15. Their program is not very competitive compared with other programs like Columbia or Berkeley. The later programs tend to send out all admits at once.
