  1. Hey everyone! I want to sincerely thank all of you for your ideas and support with my fellowship dilemma - I honestly don't know what I would do without this forum! It's kind of amazing that we have such a great Fulbright support system going on here. Everyone's ideas for what to do were very helpful and I'm taking everything into consideration before I make my big decision by tomorrow at noon. I also consulted with my FPA and he said it wouldn't be ethical to accept the fellowship I received and then withdraw for the Fulbright if I am accepted. So I am going to sleep on it tonight, take everything into consideration and ultimately go with my gut feeling tomorrow. Thanks again, you guys are all awesome and deserve Fulbrights! And even if you didn't/don't receive a Fulbright, there are certainly incredible things to come for all of you!
  2. Hi everyone, Seeing as how you all have been such a great support system throughout this process, I really need advice. I feel like my life is in shambles and moving too fast and I don't know what to do. I just got another fellowship that I applied for, but I only have until Monday to accept/reject it. I also am awaiting to get a formal full-time job offer (probably late today) that would enable me to work but then still leave for Brazil for the Fulbright if I get it. I'm really frustrated that I haven't heard about Fulbright ETA Brazil yet (as I'm sure all of you are). I need to know what to do - the other fellowship I was offered is amazing and I would definitely love to do it, but Fulbright is my very first choice. I feel like it's such a gamble and I the wait for Fulbright has been exhausting but I want the Fulbright soooo badly. I don't know if I should accept this other fellowship offer or not. Any advice/ideas/ANYTHING would be helpful! My head is spinning.
  3. This made my day! Also, I agree 100% about the exercise. I've been going to barre (yoga/pilates/ballet) classes everyday and it really helps to take my mind of things.
  4. So there was this one time that Fulbright notified Brazil candidates on a Thursday...today is Thursday...
  5. Thanks olioliwoo!!!
  6. Can anyone who has received a final response from IIE please confirm the email domain? Is it iie.org that you received an email from? I want to make sure that the email doesn't go to my spam folder - that happened in January when we were notified of recommendation status.
  7. WOOHOO!!!! Congratulations!!!
  8. Any Brazil people think we will find out tomorrow? I talked to my FPA and he thinks we will find out this week, based on past years, and the fact that Monday is traditionally a Brazil notification day. Also, I wish they didn't put the (P), (A) or (N) in the subject line...I personally need time to slow my heart rate when I receive emails like these...
  9. Good luck, UNCAnthro!! I emailed the Fulbright Brazil program administrator asking if there had been any news and she gave me a one-word answer: "soon." I have a feeling they will be coming out in this week, since other program advisors have given answers like "We expect applicants to all countries to be notified by April 15th." "Soon" has to be sooner than April 15th! The latest they have gone out for Brazil has been April 4th. Eeeeek so excited. And even more excited to be able to stop checking my email every ten seconds.
  10. I got a response from the Brazil program advisor! It was literally a one-word response: "soon." WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??? Does soon mean today or does it mean next week or in the next two weeks? Eeeeeek i've got the jitters right now.
  11. Public Service Announcement: I emailed the Brazil program director. Will post an update as soon as she replies!
  12. I applied for ETA as well! And I am in the exact same boat. Trying to figure out what to do before and after the grant would start/end is difficult. I also applied for the Princeton in Latin America Fellowship, which I was lucky to be awarded, so I might have the opportunity to work in Brazil beforehand, but its frustrating with getting a work visa and everything...such a long process. I'm hoping that, if I get Fulbright, I could either stay in Brazil and work after November 2015 or come back to the states and work for 8 months until law school...but as of right now I don't have a plan that is set in stone. What about you?
  13. No news from Brazil yet! I applied there as well. ETA or research? I talked to my FPA on Friday and she said IIE is aiming to send out all notifications (for all countries) by April 15th.
  14. Miri1776, I'm thinking about emailing the rep from Latin America as well and asking about Brazil. Was she nice about it or did she seem annoyed that you asked her? Any type of closure I could get about when to start freakishly checking my email every five seconds would be helpful.
  15. Congratulations, Neurona!!!!!!!!! So exciting!!!!!!
  16. YAY! Congratulations that is so exciting!!!!! Woohoo!!!!!!
  17. I did not get this email either.
  18. Same! I've been going to barre classes every day and running. It at least gets me away from the computer for a good 2 hour period so I can stop obsessively checking the internet. Although I have to admit, I still refresh my email on my phone several times on the treadmill... I don't know how people who aren't in school handle applying for the Fulbright. If I didn't have school to distract myself, I would probably go crazy with anxiety.
  19. Cheers to that, seriously. My scores were so mediocre.
  20. Nope, only certain countries/programs require interviews! No worries!
  21. I think you're over-thinking it. They probably just don't want to have a lot of Skype contacts they don't know personally. I don't think it means anything, wouldn't worry about it.
  22. CONGRATULATIONS!! Woohoo!
  23. Just got an email from my university saying that Tony Claudino (who we all know as the Director of the Fulbright Program at IIE) will be giving an information session at my school next Thursday. If I haven't heard by then I am seriously going to go ask him when we should expect to hear back...
  24. I would imagine that the budget cuts won't affect us this cycle because the Fulbright Commission has already made agreements with each country to send a certain number of ETAs/Researchers/Students to them. But still, that's sad for next year.
