  1. I worked as a psychometrist for a year and a half in a small practice, and I got a lot of solid hands on testing experience there. I've been a psychometrist (RA) in a lab for about a year now, and my prior testing experience has let me take on a more mature role in the lab (I work on a number of studies including pharmaceutical trials; I've coauthored one publication; etc.) - I had to really push for the opportunity to publish, but our lab has a lot of data and a relatively small staff, so there's never a shortage of publication opportunities - This is likely not the case everywhere though.
  2. If you feel like it's that bad of a fit, then I guess I would recommend reapplying next year. To me the whole process is such a crap shoot (not to mention expensive) that I'd rather take an offer (as long as it's funded and has a good APA match rate - I only applied to programs that met this criteria) of any kind rather than wait and reapply next year.
  3. Why did you apply to schools that you wouldn't go to?
  4. I took a couple as an undergrad, but I never thought anything of them. Most professors curved the grades of undergraduate students in the class. They never came up in interviews, and I never mentioned them.
  5. 90% was my threshold, but it's really w/e you're comfortable with.
  6. I'm interested in pursuing a joint clinical/research career post grad, and I definitely feel like research match is the biggest factor in my decision making process. EPPP pass rate, internship match, funding, and research match were really the only criteria I used in my decision making process (oh and location too!)
  7. School rank is pretty irrelevant. As long as the program is funded and has a solid EPPP pass rate and high (APA accredited) internship match rate, then you should be fine. Make sure that students have an opportunity to publish, and make sure that the internal practicum (clinic) and external practicum are going to offer you the ability to work with a number of different populations. ^^ assuming that you were asking about clinical otherwise ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  8. I have an offer from a solid program, but I'm still on the waitlist at one of my top schools. Both schools are great (funded, good match rate, high EPPP pass rate, great practium/externships, etc.), but my waitlist school is a better match for me overall. If I don't get accepted off of the waitlist, then I'm definitely going to go to the school that did offer me a spot, but my waitlist POI seems optimistic, so I'm still holding out hope. I made a point to only apply to programs that I would seriously go to in case a situation like this came up, so it's sort of a no brainer for me not to reapply next year. As you know the whole application process is pretty terrible and expensive not to mention a complete crapshoot, so I'd say that you should definitely accept any offer you get this year, unless the only offers you get this year are truly terrible (unfunded, poor match/EPPP rates, etc.)
  9. Hi all! I'll be starting a clinical psych PhD program this fall, and I am waiting to hear back from the NSF about the GRFP. I wanted to start a thread and see if any other clinical applicants or students had applied this cycle or in the past. I think we should hear back from NSF in early April, has anyone heard anything from NSF so far?
  10. I've been a psychometrist (18 months in private practice, 18 months for a lab) since earning my BS, and I would not have gotten into grad school w/o this experience. Working for a PP let me work with a wide variety of patients and in a number of settings, I also worked closely with insurance companies (which is a nightmare). As a research psychometrist, I've gotten to publish, which is obviously a huge boost to my CV, and I could very clearly articulate my research interests, since I had been working fulltime with research that interested me prior to applying.
  11. To UH phone acceptance - Congrats! - Mind sharing your POI/concentration?
  12. UH neuro - Did you accept your offer? Who is your POI? Congrats!
  13. I have an academia page, which is the first thing that comes up when you google me. I have a bio, my CV, and my publications on my academia page, and academia notifies me when anyone googles me and which city they're googling me from, so I had a little bit of a heads up about which POIs and programs were most interested after I first submitted my applications.
  14. Neuro as well - Interests in dementia/AD and PTSD (Interested in CTE) Interview at Houston (neuro) & EMU (general)
  15. I called GSU earlier today and was told that official invites were going out this week.
  16. Would people with interviews from Feinberg School of Medicine & Georgia State University mind sharing POI? Thanks!
  17. Any info about the U. Southern California clinical science program? I saw someone on SDN say that they had received an interview invite, and I'm wondering if this was POI specific or for all clinical applicants.
