  1. That would be a good excuse to cantact him. It is a Canadian school though.
  2. I have been in contact with a professor who seems very interested in my case and has told me many times that he would support my application. The last time I emailed him was when my application got released to the department for review (about 3 weeks ago). I told him about this update and he told me he was sure that everything was going to be fine, and that he would contact me when my application became available on the computer system. I contacted the department today and was told that my application is currently available for all faculty members to review, and that a faculty member must tell them if he/she wants to take me as a graduate student, so they would admit me. However, I have not heard back from the POI. Do you think it would be a good idea to email him? And if so, what exactly should I say? I don't want to lose this one. It's my last chance
  3. Just wanted to let you know about the result. I emailed the professor and asked him if he had any news on my application. He replied: "Your interview went well and I forwarded your information on to the program manager for the project I mentioned. I asked him a couple times, but have not received interest from him. I am still waiting to hear, but I am concerned that we may not be able to get support from him. If we don’t I won’t be able to offer you support." In the interview, he had said that we might need to have a conference with the project group. After receiving this email, I thanked him for his support, and told him I would be willing to do the conference if he thinks it would be helpful. An hour later, I got rejected!! What do you think went wrong? Did I crossed some sort of line with this last email? Or did the prof called the program manager, was said that they couldn't support me, and then told the department to reject me? I am so confused and so sad
  4. I had an interview with a professor about a month ago and he seemed interested. The interview took so long (about an hour) and he had to go somewhere so he told me he would contact me later, but I haven't heard from him since. Should I email him and ask about his decision? And if so, what should I write exactly? I don't want to sound rude or clingy
  5. I meant 7 of them are reasonable choices. The other 3 are a bit out of my league, so if I get into them I would be extremely happy. Overall, all 10 are better than C and I would be happier with them. Actually it's one of the schools that you have applied to. Apart from C, I have applied to 2 other schools from your list Only these 2 in Canada and the rest in the US. If I get admitted into one of these 2 schools, I would probably choose them over the US schools. They are much cheaper and have very good programs. Not as good as my US choices though, but just like you said, I don't want to put myself in too much debt. I guess I have to wait and see what happens. For now, I guess I have to let C go. All of the 10 schools that I have applied to this year have better programs than C, And I think I will get into at least one of them (fingers crossed). Thank you guys for responding
  6. I applied late to only one university - let's call it C - in Canada last year (because I couldn't meet other universities' application deadlines), and got admitted into their MEng program. It's not a very good university in my field and I decided to defer my admission to Fall 2014 because I wanted to apply to some better-ranked schools in the US as well. I love everything about C, the only thing that made me hesitate was thinking that I could do better. I didn't want to have any regrets thinking that I didn't try for better schools. This year, I applied to 10 universities, and haven't heard from any of them yet. The problem is, C wants me to accept/decline their offer by March 1. I'm starting to panic thinking I might not get an offer from any of these 10 universities (even though 7 of them are well aligned with my background and qualifications), and C might be my only chance C requires a $250 deposit. What do you think I should do? Should I decline their offer and hope for the best? Or should I accept their offer, pay the deposit, and then turn it down if I get into a better school? Is this something that people do? Accept and then decide not to go? It feels so wrong to break a commitment like this...
