Still nothing. No email. No update on the application site. My guess is Friday evening (they said they would have all decisions out by the end of the week) I'll receive the rejection, kick off the weekend right, lol.

@thirtyfutsmurf Not sure where you are from or experiences with the DC area, but any inclement weather that leads to schools/the government being closed for the day = at least 2 days added on to ANYTHING that needs to get done. I've been following Georgetown's twitter all throughout the application process and I know their offices have been closed a handful of times. 1-2 inches of snow around here causes shutdowns. Granted, GWU had the same issues and got all of their decisions out ~2 weeks ago, so excuses shouldn't need to be made...but that has never stopped anyone from making them. I'm sure they also get the most applications in this area because of the weight the program carries. Who knows. I think you ask a good question in your second thought. That's on you, is all I can really say. Think about the options you want to give yourself later on in your life/career. My GUESS would be if you want to get into a job that is specifically security based when you're done/while you're in school, a MA in security studies may be the best direction. However, if you think that while you're studying you can look for jobs in the security field that match your education (MPA/MIA/MPP) then you could/should be fine. Depends on what you want to be studying, what you want to do, and how much effort you put into finding a position/career you'll enjoy. Hope that helps.

@jjduval This is how I feel too. Why wait so long to reject people? I don't get it. In my application I let them know the other 2 programs (GWU/Georgetown) I was applying to. Do they assume I was accepted (lol) to those schools and so they'll just reject me last minute? Are they waiting to hear from people turning down their offers so they can give us/me one (no, considering there are wait lists)? The whole process makes no sense to me. I have a full time job in the security field in the DC area so this isn't a must have for me, but it is still unbelievably frustrating. I can see this being more of a huge pain in the ass for those coming right out of school. Same goes with Georgetown. I'm anticipating rejection for both of them, but why so late if acceptances and wait-listing have gone out already?

As with any school, it's on their website. It depends on how many credits you want to take each semester. Assuming you meant USFP, it;s 39-42 credits depending on the classes you choose to take. Part time, this is ~3 years (6-7 semesters). Full time it's 1.5-2 years. Again, it depends. http://www.american.edu/sis/degrees/MA-INAF.cfm#USFP

Did you not confirm with them whether or not they would be reviewing your application ASAP? If it was a mistake on their end they need to get it together and start reviewing your application now. I've emailed admissions regarding my application because this is getting ridiculous. If you're gonna reject me just do it already so I can move on with my career. Edit: I called the admissions office and was informed that my application is still under review and they are "hoping to get decisions out in a week or two". Almost 3 months for admissions is absolutely ridiculous but it's out of my control.

Nope. Just waiting on Georgetown (their Admissions Twitter account said decisions will be out by the end of this week) and AU. Expecting 2 more rejections and then its back to work!

Congrats to those (if any in here) who were accepted at GWU. I was not, unfortunately. Hoping for some good news from American. Best of luck, all.

Congrats on the acceptance ceid90! Hopefully you'll hear some funding news soon as well. I would just like to hear from any of the DC schools at this point. Waiting until the end of March/beginning of April is brutal.

Congrats to those admitted! Been waiting on this all week. Now that I know emails are going out my stress level is high!

I recently applied to a program that asked what other schools I was applying to, if any. The one program that asked this question also asked for a copy of my GRE scores downloaded from ETS. Since my report included the other schools I sent scores to, it made my decision a bit more obvious. Luckily, all three programs/universities I applied to are relatively similar in their reputation/program themes, so I didn't feel as though it would hurt or help me either way. I agree with Loric; schools want to know if they're your safety, is my guess. I would go with whatever you feel comfortable with.
