  1. Thanks! I wonder how the specifics of assisting in research works, I guess they will let us know when more details are sent out.
  2. A question for current students (or even prospective students, if you happen to know).. How do the graduate assistantships work? What do you do, who do you work with, how does the application process work, etc? Any info is appreciated info thank you!
  3. I'm not sure about your particular situation and maybe you already know this info, but if you are coming in with a background I don't think you would have to take more than 2.5 years. Maybe it is the case that you would have to repeat some classes as your advisor said, but I'm not sure why you would have to add a whole extra year since the sample track for applicants with a background isn't that long. You've probably seen this, but just in case..: http://www.montclair.edu/media/montclairedu/chss/departments/communicationsciencesanddisorders/Advising-Work-Prog-With-Bckgrd-For-Web.pdf
  4. Thanks! After getting in touch with them this morning as well I actually got a follow up that they will try to put a tour together some time in the next week, so hopefully we'll know more about that soon!
  5. Has anyone been able to visit the program at a time other than the open house? I think in one of last year's threads someone said that they don't give tours until after you've accepted their offer so I was wondering if that was true.
  6. I'm confused about this too. Not sure why it would be in their best interest to inform applicants so late when they know most schools will otherwise be requiring deposits by that date. However, looking through the results page for the past few years it seems that they have always let people know in mid to late March (and people were already getting off the wait list before April 15th). Also, someone in 2012 said "Spoke with Northeastern. Will not be mailing acceptances/rejections until April" but then people started getting decisions in March anyway. It might just be their policy to SAY April even if they end up responding earlier. At least I'm hoping that's the case!
  7. Does anyone know what a sample course of study might look like at NYU? I can't seem to find anything on their page (just course listings and a general curriculum listing, but nothing that breaks down by semester) and they keep emphasizing that they don't advise prospective/accepted applicants until after they enroll. It says that the program generally takes from 5 to 8 semesters to complete (counting summers as semesters, I believe) and I am trying to figure out exactly how that would look for me since time = $$$ (and a lot of $$$ in NYU's case). Basically, I am out-of-field and have some but not all prerequisites complete. It says that most grad level courses require prereqs, but I would hate to waste a whole semester taking just one prerequisite class because I don't qualify for any grad levels but have already taken the other prereqs offered that semester. Ahhh post-acceptance is almost as stressful as the application process insofar as now the reality of tuition prices is actually starting to hit me. Any help is much appreciated!
  8. I have also heard from current students that it is rare to have a job while completing the program, but at the same time many students have mentioned working as research assistants and doing related work with professors, or having work-study awards. I never thought to put two and two together to ask about it when I visited programs, but it seems like some students do work part-time, at least within the program..? Not really sure if I'm asking a question or just making a statement, but if anyone has any thoughts/something to add please feel free.
  9. I've been thinking about this too, and another factor you may want to consider is location. It's not necessarily a HUGE huge deal, but the higher ranked, well-known school I'm considering also happens to be very far from where I see myself living permanently (and where my family, friends, and significant other are-- the NY/NJ area). So although the school is well-known and would probably help me get a good CFY placement anywhere, it won't have direct relationships with hospitals/schools in NY/NJ and so I'm not sure that shelling out the extra money just to have a boost in clinical placement sites will be worth it. Because of that, I am focusing more on the quality of the programs themselves.. if the local, cheaper option has a comparably high-quality program, I will likely go there if accepted.
  10. Thank you for posting this! Although all of my applications have been submitted at this point, it is still nice to see some light shed on the whole admissions process (I had no idea students applying straight from undergrad were at a disadvantage!).. it is encouraging to know that we are not just a "number" but that most programs make an effort to look at applicants holistically.
  11. Wow, I really hope they won't actually wait until that late to let us know, considering most (if not all??) programs require us to make a decision by April 15th. It wouldn't be very helpful to be informed of a decision on April 14th. But judging by the results page, most applicants seemed to get responses by mid to late March last year, and some were actually already getting accepted off the waitlist before the April 15th, so I am crossing my fingers for a repeat of that pattern.
  12. Aaand right after writing this I saw that decisions had begun to be posted on the Apply Yourself portal. Good luck everyone!!
  13. Hey all! Now that it is March 12th it seems like it might be around the appropriate time to revive this thread. I know that TC started sending decisions on March 14th last year, but does anyone happen to know the status of decisions this year? If they will be sent out that day/later/earlier (well I guess it couldn't be much earlier at this point..)? Even though we're in the homestretch I just can't handle all this waiting anymore!!
  14. I kind of wish they hadn't sent that email last week at all so we wouldn't have been anxiously awaiting replies all week! Whether they send decisions today or not, at least it doesn't seem like they have released any up until now since nothing has been posted on the results page.. WP is a smaller, more local program so maybe its just that no one who posts on gradcafe got a reply, but I'm thinking its the former.
  15. I don't remember that being there before but I see it now too! Oh boy, I kind of wish I hadn't seen this because now I don't think I'll be able to sleep with the anxiety of waiting for tomorrow to come!!
