I'd love to hear what you're proposing to research in Spain and where. I'm going to be applying to research something in the legal field in 2015.
-
You may want to ask this question in the Fulbright 2014-2015 forum, as more people will be likely to see it there. (This is the forum for 2015-2016.)

I think that's just the Scholar program. The Student program (I believe) starts May 1. I will be applying for the first time and can't wait to be a part of that forum! Congrats to all who've moved on and I look forward to commiserating with those of you who will be reapplying.

I just want to say that I went through the equivalent of today on last year's thread, and I recall a lot of emails coming around 5:45-6:00. I could be wrong, but perhaps expect something similar??
-
I like how it switched from cup to gallon, lol!! Maybe you could tell Betty Jo you need cooking wine-->"oh you don't have any? that bottle of white wine right there will do just fine."
-
3 hours! I'm so nervous and excited for all of you.
-
Honestly, I think my favorite part about this forum is hearing about how cute all of your SOs are.
-
Lol!! It's refreshing that you all can keep some humor throughout this stressful process.
-
Mine too.

Haha that is great!!! I have a good idea for one but I don't know how to make memes, lol. :S

Wow, lots of lawyers out here. Best of luck!! To all lawyers/young professionals: how much did your experience as a lawyer (or whatever job) play into your personal statement and grant proposal? Exactly. With this market, it would be unsurprising to be let go for even mentioning considering such an opportunity.

I'm curious: who did you get to do your recommendations? Did you inform your current employers you were potentially leaving?? I've mentioned previously on this thread that that's one thing I'm struggling with. (I'm applying this upcoming cycle.) Also, were you at-large or affiliated with a previous university?
-
Yeah, more or less. I like the law and want to keep working within it, but, my soul aches for something outside of the daily grind of private practice. Which country did you apply to?
-
Nice!! Are you proposing to research something "legal"?
-
No, but I have been through the process and am a young attorney, so feel free to hit me up with any questions you have! Good on you for doing both at the same time--wow!
-
I didn't know that everyone not chosen becomes an alternate--thanks for sharing! I wonder if anyone's ever called in and asked his/her place in line.
-
That sounds awesome!! I'll cross mine for you, too.
-
Not me, but I would love to hear about your proposed topic!
-
Yes!! I just saw this episode last night. I'm absolutely ob.sessed. with HHI. Honestly, that show has played no small part in re-orienting my brain toward going abroad.
-
I'm curious to see if the results come out the same way as last year (yes--I stalked that thread, too). It seems like "bad" news was delivered first, around 6 pm, and then the good news about a half hour later. My heart and best wishes go out to everyone waiting for the news!

Haha, I love this.

What a good topic to bring up. I'm applying until this upcoming cycle, but Fulbright is already a big topic of discussion around our apartment, and my SO is really sad thinking about a year apart. SO hints about coming along and figuring out the visa thing later, but, I know this is something I would need to experience on my own. I'd love to hear from any past winners who've navigated these waters or anyone else going through this.

Thanks! One of my main questions is who you got to do your 3 recommendations. If I were still in college (or law school), it would be easy to pick three professors, but now that I'm working, the issue is a lot trickier, especially since I really don't want to tell anyone I'm applying, because, if people fear I may not be here in a year, they won't give me work now. Also, what are you trying to do in the UK? Teach, or research? And, since you're at large, how did you go about finding an affiliation? Did you just figure out some key people and then send out targeted emails? Thanks so much for the help. To all: I wish you the very, very best of luck and hope to be reading about your good news on this thread very soon!

Thanks for the response! Student program, it is. I put "sabbatical" in quotes for the very reason that I wouldn't necessarily plan on going back--but I'd be less likely to be let go wayyy in advance of even finding out whether I got the grant, if someone found out I was applying if it's being presented as a "sabbatical." I know that probably sounds odd, but, in today's tight legal market, that's just kind of how it works, so you have to "cya" (cover your ___) at all times. I'm definitely am expecting the opportunity to alter my career path in some way, should I be so lucky to obtain the grant. Where are you applying and what is your topic??

Hey everyone, I'm new to Grad Café and joined after doing some research on the Fulbright and stumbling across these forums. I'll be applying for a Fulbright during the next cycle, so I've been reviewing a lot of these posts and looking for any (very early) advice and information. I'll probably start a 2015-2016 forum at some point in the next couple of months, but, in the meantime, I'd love to follow the progress through this cycle of someone whose story is similar to mine (already in the working world), or who's applying for a Full Research grant in Spain. I've been in the working world for a couple of years (I'm a practicing attorney) and I want to apply for a Fulbright Full Research Student grant in Spain. Is anyone here similarly in the working world, or, better yet, an attorney who's applied for the grant? If so, are you applying at-large or did you reconnect with either your undergraduate or graduate institution? Also, has anyone here had to deal with the sticky situation of getting recommendations while not tipping off your current place of employment that you are considering a "sabbatical," so to speak? Anyway, sorry to intrude on your thread! I know this is a stressful week for you guys, but take heart in the fact that, at least from what I can tell, the acceptance percentage overall seems to be going up each year (in part, because the number of applications are going down!).
