Hi, All: My name is Katie and I am a current Health Psychology and Clinical Science Ph.D student at The City University of New York (CUNY). I am writing to tell you about our new Ph.D. program; our first class was enrolled in 2013. We are excited to be offering a curriculum that provides a true commitment to elucidating the interaction between physical and mental health from a rigorously empirical biopsychosocial perspective. Students will receive a thorough grounding in both clinical science and health psychology, including current theoretical perspectives, the conduct and evaluation of scientific research methods, understanding of the behavioral and biological mechanisms of psychopathology and physical illness, the conduct of prevention and intervention trials across diverse populations and in diverse settings, and addressing health disparities in a sociocultural context. Our faculty include Cheryl Carmichael, Tracy Dennis, Joel Erblich, Sarit Golub, Renee Goodwin, Michael Hoyt, Doug Mennin, Regina Miranda, Jeff Parsons, Laura Reigada, Tracey Revenson, Margie Rosario, Deborah Walder, and Mariann Weierich. Research areas cover a wide range of topics in clinical science and health. Further, these faculty have formal and informal relationships at premiere medical and public health institutions throughout New York City that offer collaborative opportunities for research and externship. We will be admitting a small group of highly qualified predoctoral students for Fall 2015. I just received an email to log in and check my status --- rejected. Although I already accepted elsewhere, there were really slow this year it seems!

I haven't heard anything either --- I emailed awhile ago with no response. It really turned me off -- so I accepted elsewhere.

Weird! It wasn't like that this morning when I added my offer!

I have my MS in Experimental Psychology concentrating in Behavioral Neuroscience; granted I also have about 2.5 years of research experience at my current job in my current area of interest, but I received offers and interviews for PhD programs (not clinical though). Personally, I feel I got offers because of my research experience and LOR's.

On my phone. Lol. I thought about the same thing and ended up writing aomething like, I'm glad we had such a stimulating conversation about X, I thought about it the whole way home ... Guess it worked. Lol. I got accepted some days later.

I imagine that there was something that stood out to this program about you, maybe what you said in your personal statement, or letters of recommendation, that made them want to meet and interview you. For a Psy.D program I think that they might focus more on the clinical aspects and they might be less research orientated and more theory and practice, so that can work towards your advantage. It might not be a bad thing to prep for, that question, and work in what experience you do have and really work on how you would "fit" with their program. During the interview phase, I believe it's more about them assessing fit rather then focusing on why you don't have any research experience. Just my thoughts!

Ditto to what everyone else has said. I haven't heard from them but have heard from basically every other school, with the exception of UConn Social.

You should definitely acknowledge the offer ... I wrote something like this ... Hi Dr. XX, Thank you so much for the email, this is very exciting. I am waiting to hear back from other schools that I applied to, but XX is one on my top choices and I'm excited to be accepted. I will definitely let you know prior to XX if I plan to accept the offer and assistantship.

Hmm. Has anything been posted on the results board that would indicate that people have been invited to an on-campus interview? Two of the schools that I applied to both stated that they had their committee meetings on Friday; maybe you'll hear later on today? If not I would send an email to your POI. Good luck!

I had a phone interview the other day ... Questions that they asked was to tell them a little bit about my academic/research background as one of the profs I was interviewing with wasn't on the admissions committe. I was also asked why I want to obtain a PhD, why I applied to their program, what type of mentor do I see myself wanting, what potential barriers might I see in doing research in a cancer center (program I applied to has affiliations with a cancer center), what is an area for improvement and what my research interest are. You want to be prepared with questions to ask them. Some things I asked were, how long it normally takes students to finish the program, where do they see their research going in the next 3-5 years, if students and faculty normally publish together, what their mentoring style is, and I think an important one is what hurdles they would want their students to acheive while in that program. My interview lasted 35 minutes. The potential barriers question I couldn't think of an answer to being that I haven't experienced that, I honestly answered and said that I really don't know. The professor was really nice and gave me something to think about and I thanked him for that. I received an offer of admissions about an hour after the call. Good luck!!!

I applied to Bio/Health for Pitt. When I emailed the psych coordinator on the 15th she said that faculty were still actively reviewing and they they wouldn't know anything for a week ...

I believe so. I specifically asked about bio/health phd.

It's too long, lol. In reality it's only been a little over a month since the deadline. Sometimes I think about that and laugh to myself

Does anyone know if the University of Connecticut interviews for Social Psych Ph.D. --- looking through TGC seems like last year around the end of January people were just accepted.

In case anyone applied here. Faculty are still reviewing, should hear something in a week.
