Thanks so much for everyone's insightful feedback on this question. Very appreciated.

It seems like some on here have applied 2 or 3 times before getting in where they want. For those who have gone through multiple cycles...how did you decide that was the best thing to do? There's obviously no guarantee you would get into a better program...

Any more Vanderbilt admits declining acceptance? I'm hoping to get off their wait list in time to attend the visit March 13-15...
-
@levoyous: Did you get a wait list from Penn? Congrats!
-
Whoever posted the Penn wait list...what field are you?
-
Does anyone know if Penn has a wait list?
-
Here we go, it's Monday morning! Hoping for good news all around!
-
I agree, wouldn't dare contact them at this point. Just gotta wait and let the cards fall where they may.

Thanks, that helps. It's a little complicated bc I would go to this school over my two acceptances thus far, but I'm still waiting on UPenn (interview) and Vanderbilt (wait list) and I would choose both over this school. I want to be considerate of their funding situation and not string them along if I don't intend to go there, but at the same time I don't think it's fair to ask for an answer so quickly. What if I don't answer by March 14, can they drop me and pick someone else? I guess they haven't really offered me anything besides acceptance (bc of the tricksy working in the letter regarding funding), so I don't really "have" anything they can take away bc funding isn't officially offered until I accept? I'll likely know about Penn by then, but could still be waiting on Vanderbilt... Confusing!? Exciting!? I'm not sure, probably both!

Can I get your thoughts on something? I was accepted at a school via a letter today which basically said: congrats, you're accepted! Sign this paper letting us know you accept admission and then the graduate school will get back to you with more details on your admission. Btw, you have to let us know by march 14th. Is this allowed? How could I possibly make a decision to accept somewhere with no other details about a funding package?

You're right. I just keep going back to the fact that I've done all I can at this point, and it's really out of my hands. Gotta keep the hope alive!

I guess I find it hard to believe that of the 6 applicants on here that had interviews NONE of us have been notified of an acceptance, and now they are notifying those on the wait list...and it's none of us again. Little fishy, if you ask me.

Who's the wait list poster for Penn??
-
I received word about my placement on the wait list this past Sunday. I know of one other person on the wait list, but I daresay there are more. The one rejection listed says it was from an informal conversation, so I don't think they've sent official rejections yet.
-
Any chance the poster was just faking us out?? It seems pretty fast to get their meeting rescheduled with the weather and Monday holiday.

Amen! Do you know how many spots UPenn has and how many they interviewed for those spots? I had an interview, and I forgot to ask. Several years ago, I found this link on their site regarding their admission stats 2004-2008. It's been taken off their site, but the link still works: http://www.history.upenn.edu/grad/docs/grad_admissions.pdf Do you think this is still generally accurate? It seems like if they are looking for a cohort of 15, they will actually admit 30ish?
-
I'm on the wait list and did not have an interview.
-
Thank you! Great to know! Good luck at your chosen program.

I just got an email from the DGS a half hour ago. There were 2 acceptances posted on the results board late last week, so when I didn't hear anything I thought I was going to be rejected!

I'm the poster who was wait listed at Vanderbilt. Does anyone know how it works at Vanderbilt? Have they taken students from the wait list in recent years?

nevermind....i was on my phone and it doesn't show the signature info. Congrats on Yale!
