Allstonrockers - yeah, tell me about it. Honestly, I haven't found a single good Mexican restaurant ever since I moved here. Any recommendations?
-
Good luck! I do hope that you get your MSW and perhaps you will see me in the field in the future!
-
Nereida- Mucho Gusto. Mis amigistas estan de Mexico. Tengo muchas amigas Mexicanas cuando estaba en la Universidad. Puedo cocinar la comida mexicana. Me gusta pozole mucho. Soy china media y tailandia media. =D I am still practicing my Spanish. lol...

Haha...I had the exact same question. But allstonrockers was nice enough to ease my anxiety. He said that he knew someone got his scholarship renewed. I did call the school and asked. They said that it is normally renewed if the student maintains the minimum GPA), but it is not guarantee. I guess they just wanted to be safe and do not want to make any promises.

HopefulMSW - my boss gave me some really good advice yesterday. Look at the logistics side if you can't decide. She said that it does not matter where you go, really! As long as you get your license, that's it. I think you can look at the students' culture. Do you prefer making new friends or getting to know people? BU is known (according to a BU student, my coworker=D) for socializing. You will get to know a lot of people. As for Simmons SW, many students are part-time and they have a job already. They are there to learn. I think you can look at the transportation and rent as well. I will be driving so I prefer BU because it's closer to Storrow drive. I also like the area better. But some people like to be closer to Fenway. Look at the class schedules, courses, and electives. I know Simmons requires 24hours field education for both years while BU and BC are 16/24. Do you want to get more practical experience? Take those into your consideration. The reason why I do not choose Simmons is because I have a full time job at a homeless shelter; 24 hours of field placement for 2 years will be difficult for me. I am choosing BU now because I do not want any debt, and BU actually offers more electives than BC. Nereida, I am originally from the Bay area too. Let me know if you want to connect. Boston is really cold. I thought I was going to die first year living here.lol...Joking. But because now I drive, it's not too bad. Taking the T in the cold is really a pain in the butt. Other than that, Boston is very beautiful. However, you will miss a lot of good food - burritos, in-and-out, jack in the box, real Mexican food, Japanese ramen, etc... The good news is, NYC is not far away and you can always find good food there. This is just my impression of Boston, but do ask me question if you want to know more about the culture and the people here. =)

My neighbor is doing her Ph.D at Simmons. She said that the best scholar has left Simmons. However, the program is still strong. Simmons is pretty clinical-focus in the Boston area. I don't know if you are going to practice in California. But I will look into the curriculum and decide. I may choose Simmons over BU because I heard that BU is more macro. As for myself, I honestly don't know where I will be going. I think I may choose BC because of the curriculum. It seems like BC require less hours in the first Spring semester. I think this is more doable to me since I will keep my full-time job. I am going to use one more day to think. At the same time, I think 20k is doable I am so torn now!
-
I am deciding between BC and BU. My supervisor said that look into each classes and curriculum and see which one you are more interested.
-
Sorry, I did not ask. But do try! =)
-
Hahaa...yeah make sure we do it animal style. I really hope you get a scholarship because paying 100k for grad schools is just a bad investment. Best of luck! Like I said, my friend did not get any scholarships but she called and negotiated for some.
-
Actually, they didn't give me anything right. I called them yesterday and they said they had to reconsider my application. I don't think they gave me money because of that one mistake. I did get a scholarship as a part-time too. I just got more.

http://www.bc.edu/content/bc/schools/gssw/academics/field-education.html You can submit your application with the same login as your Agora portal. -
Hahaaa....I miss animal style fries. I also crave for Jack in the Box! By the way, I need help! I just got a call from Boston University today and they said that they made a mistake with my application. They thought I was a part-time applicant. Now they are giving me a full scholarship. With BC, I am getting 75% and I will have about 10,000 debt per year. I really like BC and my heart already went to BC. I even submitted my check and the field placement application. I wanted to work with delinquent youth, where should I go?

For those that got in and decided to go, have you guys looked into your field placement application yet? I was checking the data base and it's pretty cool. -
HopefullMSW and guyinshortallday, It seems like you both are from Nor-cal. I hope you will survive the cold if you decide to come here. I am originally from the bay area and have been living in Boston since 2011. I went to SJSU for my undergrad, go spartans! Well, if you guys decided to come to BC or BU, let me know. Perhaps we can meet up, as long as you bring me an in-and-out burger and we will be best friends forever. lol...
-
allstonrockers Congratulations! I am happy for you. By the way, do you guys think a 20k student loan is a lot? I never get a loan before because I went to a state university and managed to pay monthly.
-
pmelwani Thank you for your inputs. I think everyone deserves to be in the best program because s/he has a great passion in human services. I am second doubting if I should go to BU now because of the trauma focus that they offered. I just found out BU made an error with my financial aid. They thought I was a part-time application and offered me a scholarship based on that. They said that they have to reconsider my financial aid. Now I don't even know if I will get more money from BU, but I have just mailed out my $200 check to BC. If I want to work with delinquent juveniles, which program do you guys think focus more on youth and children?
-
Actually, I don't know if you are rewarded with a scholarship. My coworker(who just got her MSW) said that you can ask the school to deduct your application fees from your scholarship. Perhaps this can be your option so that you do not pay anything out of pocket? I hope this does not sound like a bad advice.
-
I think I will be going to BC because they have a better clinical concentration in Children and Families. Especially the school offers some field placements that BU doesn't. On top of that, BU is not giving me as much money as BC.
-
Hi, I was accepted as well but I will be going to BC because it offers me more money. Pmelwani, I know that BC also offers you a scholarship, will you be choosing BC or BU? And if money is not a factor, which one of the two will you choose?
-
Boston University called me today and told me that I was accepted to the program. They said that an official letter and email will also be sent to me. Good luck everyone!
-
Congrats Eunice! Many of us in the forum have heard from BC and already got a letter from them. It took me a little more than a week to get an official letter after the email. So hang in there! I hope to see you at BC, if you decide to go there! =) Good luck! By the way, I also applied to Simmons and they asked me for the same documents. I don't even know if I should be submitting because I already made up my mind to go to BC.

I do receive 2 letters in the mail that came in the same big envelope. One stated my acceptance to the program and the other one was a scholarship award. I have a friend that goes to BC, and she did not get any scholarship at the beginning. She later called and they somehow gave her some money. It doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck! -

You are right, nightwolf1129. I can see the same document, and mine is dated on 2/10. I think that should be the letter. =D Icelestial, my impression with bc is that they care about your community involvement than your academic performance.(just my opinions though...) I have a friend that got in with a 3.30 but she was very involved in her community. She also got a huge amount of scholarship. As for me, I have a 3.84 and many years of volunteering, interning, and work experience in the field of victim advocacy and domestic violence with children and families. If you have demonstrated your commitment to social justice as well, that should be a plus. My experience with the admission office was very pleasant. They are friendly and nice. I don't think that would hurt your application if you call and ask politely. :-)
