Why would it be an M.S. or M. Eng if it is only one year and without a thesis?

What is so special about Cornell that they offer masters in 1 year? Is is a high workload degree?

I didn't mean compressing the master into one year by doing twice the work. I meant just the first year or around 15 credits, because I don't have cash for two years.
