First acceptance! UIC sent me a very nice letter from the department, with a very nice offer including an assistantship. I'm super excited, it's still sinking in. Very glad I visited Chicago last week but wish I had taken the chance to visit the campus.

I think you definitely have chance to get in UIC or NW because of your work experience. UIC emphasizes a lot on technology, their dean is very charismatic in person! 
 
Also, I think neither open house nor interview is a decisive factor for you being accepted into a program.
In my case, I was skyped-interviewed by Penn State's eight admission committee members for like 40 minutes, but I was never asked to their open house.
I have know fellows that were asked to open house but never interviewed. Also, I know phd friends there who were never interviewed or asked to open-house. They also told me interview and open house didn't mean anything at this point; the process is confusing in nature.
 
You are definitely right! We need to distract ourselves as possible as we can. But it has been raining all day down here!

Hi elvans! I've applied to a few on this list (the first three) and heard absolutely nothing.  I'm not expecting much until February...I'm scheduling my panic attack for after 2/1.  Haha.

Just dropping in to wish you all 2014 applicants good luck and calm(ish) nerves during the next few weeks as you hear back from programs. I remember sitting on my couch and twiddling my thumbs until about mid-February - couldn't seem to do much of anything besides wonder where I'd be come August.

Hey nullsymbol, thanks! I actually got an email from the head of RPS yesterday, who had been talking to the head of MTS, and they wanted to make sure I didn't intended to apply to MTS. All the faculty I was interested in working with were actually MTS people and I think it was a mistake on my part - luckily enough they transferred the application.
 
TSB looks very cool and very much related to my interests... but also seems closer to CS and maybe more technical? is that true? Also, are you involved with any of the cluster groups? I got really excited when I learned about the critical theory cluster there, would be awesome to work with. 
 
 
 
Feeling the exact same thing more or less - hearing about others getting interviews is a bit hard, when I'm thinking "if I was going to get an interview, I should have heard about it." then my reasoning goes, "if the interviews are just about fit, then I've had those conversations already with people I'd like to work with and there may be no need for them if they feel I'm already qualified." It's just a waiting game. 

I submitted my last application today after a fair dose of procrastination. 
 
As soon as I finished with it, I grabbed my phone which I had silenced so as not to distract me into further procrastination. What do I see on there? An email notifying me of induction to my second major department's honor society. Would have looked nice and schnazzy on my CV. Oh well.

Just did a round of checking my applications to see if there's been any movement-- and my status changed on my Temple application to "University Acceptance." Even though I still have seven more to hear back from before I make The Big Decision and no word on funding yet, this is a pretty awesome feeling. 

wb.o make sure you double check the major listed. I just did a search of Chapel Hill & Communication and saw that a majority of the responses for just Communication or Communication Studies were Jan15-March. I'd hold out hope for a bit longer.
 
I checked the application portal just now and I haven't gotten any sort of update. I emailed one of the office staff on Wednesday of this past week because there was a problem with the applyyourself portal on my application and due to the context of the conversation, I am left believing that they are still making acceptance decisions.
