  1. Hi everyone! Are you currently applying for graduate programs in bioengineering or related disciplines? We are current graduate students and postdocs in the EBRC Student & Postdoc Association who have been in your shoes and are here to help! Join our virtual office hours to get a fresh pair of eyes to look over your personal statement and provide feedback. We will aim to provide 1-on-1 feedback; however, if the number of applicants is high, we will lead peer review in writing circles to ensure everyone can get feedback. Event: Graduate Applications Office Hours Date: Saturday, November 26th, 2022 Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm PT (12:00 pm - 3:00 pm ET) Click here for more details and to register! Can’t come but still want to get feedback? Click this link to sign up to join a dedicated channel on our Slack! We will have a thread where you can request feedback, and we will connect you with a SPA member. You can also opt to sign up for our mailing list to hear about upcoming workshops/panels! Learn more about EBRC and the Student & Postdoc Association by visiting our website.
  2. Hey all, update! Check out our virtual workshop on applying to graduate fellowships! We will first use the NSF GRFP as a case study for writing successful applications, and follow with a panel discussion where we will touch on additional fellowship programs. Junior/senior undergrads, Master's students, and 1st/2nd year PhD students are all welcome! Panel: Applying to Graduate Fellowships Date: Tuesday, September 27th, 2022 Time: 2:00 - 3:30 pm PT (5:00 - 6:30 pm ET) Click here for more details and to register!
  3. Hi everyone! The EBRC Student & Postdoc Association (SPA) are putting together a series of panels and workshops for students interested in researching synthetic/engineering biology in graduate school (Master's or PhD). Both current undergrads and master's students are welcome! Check out the first virtual panel to hear from current postdocs and PhD students about their takes on questions such as "why engineer biology as a career?", "should I apply for graduate school", and "how do I go about applying?"! Panel: Engineering Biology in Graduate School Date: Tuesday, September 13th, 2022 Time: 12:00 - 1:30 pm PT (3:00 - 4:30 pm ET) Click here for more details and to register! Can’t attend but want to hear about upcoming workshops/panels and/or connect with current graduate students and postdocs working to engineer biology? Click this link to sign up for the mailing list and/or join a dedicated channel on the SPA's Slack! Learn more about EBRC and the Student & Postdoc Association by visiting its website. We will also post links and information about further workshops/panels in this thread! Flyer
  4. NOTE - official SPA membership is currently reserved for current graduate students and postdocs. This is an invite to a Slack channel set up to engage with future SPA members (ie current undergrads interested in syn bio!)If you are a graduate student or postdoc and see this and want to join the SPA, you can join via this link: https://ebrc.org/apply-spa/Please let me know if you have any questions!
  5. Hi everyone! Interested in researching synthetic biology or adjacent fields in grad school? Come engage with a community of grad students and postdocs to learn more about the labs and opportunities available around the globe! Sign up here today! >>> Engineering Biology Research Consortium Student and Postdoc Association - Undergraduate Channel Invitation The EBRC SPA is a group of graduate students and postdocs working to engineer biology around the world. Most are in synthetic biology labs, though that is not a hard requirement. The SPA hosts networking/social events, puts on workshops, runs a Slack community, and much more! The EBRC SPA has created a Slack channel for undergraduates interested in pursuing graduate education in synthetic biology to connect with existing graduate students and postdocs. Questions about a school or a lab? Interested in the field in general? Have questions about what to put in your application? Come join the community and we will do our best to help! Once in graduate school, you can seamlessly transition to become a member of the EBRC SPA. 8. gmedlo's friend checking in, I thought I'd get in on the action. I also got some calls from two PIs at UVA, though no invite yet. Hopefully I'll get one soon. Does anyone know if Cal Tech sends out their invitations in a burst like Berkeley? I'm hoping that that maybe I'll get something from them this week since I didn't with the wave last week. Also, any word on Pitt yet? Here's my profile for those interested: GRE: 164Q, 165V, 4.0W (89%, 95%, 54%) UG GPA: 3.76 (3.79 Bioengineering) Research experience: - 2.5 years in a DNA damage/apoptosis/cancer laboratory, various projects both experimental and computational. - 1 REU with the Amgen Scholars Program @ UW, stayed in lab to finish project during fall. Research publications, presentations, conferences: - 1 major conference - 2 papers currently under review Grad Research focus: Systems & Synthetic Bio most likely University list: Caltech, Berkely-SF, Stanford, USC, Michigan, Pitt, UVA, BU, MIT (all Bioe / BME)
