I was not selected for Australia.
-
I dare an Australia applicant to call... :-)
-
...and another day of waiting is upon us. Let's hope for lots of notifications today, folks! :-) Best of luck to all!
-
I feel like we'll know soon. But, then again, I can't really see a reason why it has taken this long already. Either way - let's hope for the best. Maybe they'll tell us tomorrow? I am just getting to the point that some answer would be better than obsessively waiting!!!
-
I hear you - I don't think their funding dried up or anything. I simply think that they are just taking longer than expected. Who knows, though? It is kind of lame that they won't respond, though. I emailed the region rep for IIE and heard not a peep from him either. I wish they would let us know - this is crazy!
-
I know someone who works for IIE, and they said that the FFSB almost always approves the selected candidates. It would take something like a felony to get held up on that level.

This is literally every day for me lol
-
This is amazing.
-
Haha - thanks so much! I really appreciate that! :-)

You're welcome. I hope this doesn't get you down too long. It's totally understandable to be a bit bummed, but, as you well know, there are always other things. Honestly, I think sopranos have it worse than composers. Audition fees...accompanist fees? Anyway... Check out my music - I'm always looking for collaborators! Do you have any sound files? https://soundcloud.com/joellove

If anyone remotely understands, I do - I am a composer. I think my proposal is quite good, but I feel like I sucked it up on the interview and have been driving myself mad thinking about it. At the end of the day, it all boils down to their agenda and if your proposal works with what they want. I have done well with a few things and have won a few competitions, but I don't have a ton to show for mine either. I know several other composers who have a deep repository of awards, fellowships, etc. I'm getting my DMA and will complete it next month. I have some of the exact same concerns about what I will do after. Hey - maybe I can write you a piece and we can vent all this frustration out with it? :-) Know that my heart goes out to you, for whatever that's worth!

Terribly sorry to read this lalakey - I will feel similarly if I am not selected for Australia. As many have said before, there is plenty to still be happy about (getting this far is an achievement in and of itself) and this one thing will not define you as a person.
-
I hear you! Let's hope it's today! :-)
-
A friend who heard REALLY late two years ago sent me this:
-
Any Australian candidates think we might hear today?
-
Ugh! Me too!
-
With each day, I analyze every single event of my interview. I'm sure we're all in the same boat. I guess we all have to remember that EVERYONE is doing that and we all were probably surprised by something and didn't think we knocked every single question out of the park! Here's to hoping we ALL find out this week! Will it happen? No...but I still want it. :-)
-
Just to let all the Australain applicants know - I emailed the regional contact. I doubt I will get a response, but will let you know if I do!
-
Man - I can't wait to find out about Australia. I wish there were some discernible logic to this! Glad to hear the happy news and also lamenting the sad news. Best of luck to all!
-
Congratulations, man! I guess you haven't heard back from the Australian Fulbright commission yet?
-
I am SO glad to read that you did this. Thanks!!
-
Same here - I'd really like to know either way so that I can plan! Has anyone had any experience with bringing a dependent over in Australia (or any other country with no dependent funding)? When I originally applied, I marked no dependents because they did not offer any funding anyway. Would this ultimately result in my fiancee not being able to stay with me during any portion of the grant period? Do they monitor that closely? Any info would be appreciated.
-
I will also explode. Here's to fingers crossed for all of us. Best of luck to you and Glassgirl!
-
Thanks a lot for this information, Marty - I'm a finalist for Australia, and had concerns similar to mdog's. 40,000 AUD is very generous and would be ample. My bet is that we hear on Tuesday! Good luck to all of those waiting to hear back about Australia!
-
I would just like to say: no matter what happens, I think everyone should be proud of the work they've done. I did not think that I would even get recommended, much less to actually end up getting it (I'm guessing we Australian candidates will find out next Tuesday). I am going to be grateful that I've made it this far. We can all still put "Fulbright" on our resumes (perhaps only as finalists) and that still carries some weight. Good luck all, and be kind to yourself. You've all worked hard to get this far! :-) my two cents, anyway...
