Whoever posted the Stanford interview for sociocultural - Congratulations! I'm out of the picture I guess (no interview) and it's breaking my heart because Stanford was number 1 for me. I'm currently standing at 5 rejections (presumably Chicago, Stanford and Toronto and officially Brown and Michigan) and 1 acceptance (UC Davis). Only waiting on Hopkins now and the way things are going, I'm not expecting anything. If anyone hears anything about Hopkins interviews, please let me know so I can accept the one offer I have! And to everyone still waiting: Hoping for the best for all of you! I knew this process was going to be brutal, but you're never completely mentally prepared for it.

Hi. That will be me. I heard from Stanford last night to set an interview. Stanford is also my number 1 school and the only one I have heard from so far. While excited, I am also super anxious for the interview.

I think JHU take some time since they had extended the deadline to 15th Jan. Wish you the best.

  2. Hi Guys. I've been working for some time on my application. My only problem, and probably a big one, has been contacting POI's. I haven't heard back from anyone I contacted. Should this be a deal-breaker? Instead of contacting POI's I feel like I should be focusing more on the statements of purpose and personal history. Being an international student I don't know if not getting in touch with a POI translates into already out of the race.

  3. I sent them off an email asking for the funding information -- and if I don't hear anything today, I'll phone the department directly. Carleton's funding package will be hard for them to match, but those troubling 'other factors' make decisions trickier.

Thanks for the info (and congratulations on Queen's!)

Hey, have you got a reply yet. I asked them previously and they said I'll get soon. And it's been quite some time so I sent another email. Haven't heard from them since

  4. Yes, very excited, and you must be as well! I hope to work with David McNally, Asher Horowitz, and Martin Breaugh. Seriously, York's Poli Sci dept is so so great for theory.. (especially if you like critical theory/continental thought as oppose to strictly liberalism/normative theory) did my undergrad there and am looking forward to returning!

I'm also more into critical theory/continental philosophy, do you think York should be my top priority school? Are there other programmes in Canada that compare to it... I've applied to Western's Theory and Criticism and Victoria's Political Science (CSPT concentration) as well.. I am though particularly inclined towards post-colonial theory. (Again, I'm an international student so.. )

  5. Earlier this week I found out informally that I was accepted into York's Social and Political Thought PhD! Other applicants should email the graduate program director to find out their status (he has the MA results as well).

How much time do you think they'll be available if we just wait them out. (Applied for an MA)

  6. It's amazing how deadlines vary within schools, but program to program! My UVic application isn't due until Feb 15, but the application status has already changed from "Submitted" to "App forwarded for review" to "App forwarded: Interim Review". It's driving me nuts!

I got an interim review too. What do you think this is supposed to mean?
