  1. Hi, I got admitted to the ChemBE Ph.D. program as well. Have you received anything from the school yet? I haven't heard back from the school after I signed and sent back the offer acceptance letter.
  2. I emailed the department few weeks ago and this is what they said: Thank you for your applying to the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS)! The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) will notify all applicants of the official admissions status no later than by mid-March. In the interim, I encourage you to log on to the online application portal. Per the Council of Graduate Schools, students who are admitted by graduate programs in the US are asked to submit a formal decision by April 15th. I wish you the very best as you explore your options for pursuing graduate study!Thank you for your applying to the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS)! I don't want to sound so negative but at this point, I feel like I am most likely rejected from all the schools that haven't contacted me.
  3. I am waiting to hear from Yale, Northwestern, Harvard, and Purdue. Considering I did my MS at Purdue, I'm not too worried about getting accepted there but I am starting to get really worried about the rest!

Thank you very much for your detailed replies. I'm planning on taking a trip to Baltimore sometime in June for apartment hunting. Is June a good time to do that? I'd imagine there would be some empty units as people are graduating.
  5. I can't imagine how Harvard could release our contact info to a travel agency without our consent. I really don't remember agreeing to such terms. Or maybe I'm just bitter that I didn't get that email!
  6. No i have not received anything from Harvard and i am also going nuts! Btw, I received the rejection letter from Hopkins BME... It looks like i will most likely enroll in Hopkins ChemBE!
  7. Hi, I'm an international applicant as well and have not heard back from Harvard yet. Applied to JHU, but not BU. I have not heard from JHU either. Congratulations! I am so jealous of you two. Are you guys both Americans? I hope they do another wave for international applicants!

I was also recently accepted to JHU for Ph.D. in ChemBE and I've been hearing many devastating stories about the city...as well as links to news articles dealing with various murders and robberies. The general consensus seems to be "you get what you pay for". High-end luxurious apartments seem to be the safest....
  9. Congrats!! I really wish I had applied to Columbia, but I couldn't find any professors that matched my research interests Did anyone apply to Harvard? As an international student it's a bit difficult to "guess" the notification dates! I'm starting to think I am probably either wait-listed or rejected from the schools that already sent out the invites (i.e. Penn, Duke)...
  10. I received the same letter from Washington today. It's quite disappointing considering the POI was very enthusiastic of my background and even said he will recommend me to the adcom oh well! I also agree that we need some sort of large scale effort in tissue engineering. Among all sub-topics of BME, i feel like tissue engineering is one of the most uncertain area, with extreme difficulty to commercialize many of the technologies. But we are the ones who can solve such problems!! We have many years of research in front of us so lets tackle on problems one by one!
  11. Oh I actually had a question for you guys but forgot to mention it. As you guys know I was accepted to JHU's Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering program, and not that it really matters, but i was just wondering where this program should be categorized in the US News rankings. The program itself is very bio-oriented with a mix of chemical engineering and maybe some environmental (biological) engineering. Nonetheless, I think they're both great programs (obviously JHU BME is #1) and I am also very happy to see great results coming in for a lot of people here!
  12. Great! Good luck! That is great! WashU has a great program!
  13. Congrats AxyC! UW is one of my top choices as well! And I just received a formal offer from the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering dept of Hopkins! Nothing from the BME dept yet. POI contacted me first to tell me about the acceptance and I am really happy about it. POI is an affiliate in BME, so i guess i will have a chance to get a taste of both worlds....
  14. Thanks for the opinions guys. Yes, it is indeed very difficult for an international student to get into popular schools...unless you have an amazing background. I am proud of my accomplishments but it is also true that there are many applicants with similar or better credentials. And as you said FIT is very important, and I just received a very informal offer from a professor at Hopkins, as I was reading the rejection letter from UCB. I hope the adcom at Hopkins accept the professors request. Fingers crossed... Good luck to everyone!
  15. I would like to ask for you guys' frank opinions about my profile. Do you guys think i have any good chance at any of those schools? I think my biggest weakness is the GPA, and i have been trying to compensate for that with research experience in the fields of my interest. I do have LOR from renowned professors and research scientists of respective fields. I'm getting very very nervous as some of the results seem to be out already. I.e. Stanford, UCB, Duke... I would love to get your opinion or advice! Thank you!
