  1. yes, my name is common as well and one of the girls wrote me back a couple days after the OP and was like "i couldn't find you...??" i've gotten a couple of other responses now and so i'm feeling a lot better
  2. maybe it just hasn't hit you yet. i mean, i was definitely excited when i heard that i got into my top choice school, but the initial excitement wore off pretty quickly. however, i think once i move to my new city, start classes, meet my new classmates, etc... i'll be pretty excited.
  3. haha... at least you (WE!) have the grad cafe to waste time on!
  4. I was notified that I was on the waitlist as well... but i have no idea if that is always the case.
  5. you're dead-on about the ice storms! i live in southwest indiana (my sister lives in lexington), and the ice was something i was never prepared for when i first moved here. we had SNOW... not ice. it is very difficult to get around in! another thing to check out in lexington... if you are at all into bargain shopping, they have an awesome goodwill and salvation army! i have found TONS of cute stuff there.
  6. i definitely feel where you're coming from!!!!
  7. i definitely slacked off my senior year... luckily for me, i had an internship 20 hours per week (which i couldn't really slack there) and my senior paper and that was it. however, i probably should have had the paper done by march, and didn't finish it until (literally!) the last possible second in the last week in april. i've taken this year off to work, and i am SO glad i did! it's given me so much time to prepare applications, study for the GRE, not to mention the days off that I've needed for interviews. (i work in a school so it's pretty flexible)... i can't imagine applying to grad school during my senior year... you guys must be pulling your hair out!
  8. haha, more personable... or... i guess, more likely to respond to an "add me on facebook!" at my current job i have TONS of free time... lots of which i spend playing around on facebook and myspace. i know you can't tell a WHOLE lot about someone from their facebook profile, but i always do like to see what their interests are, what kind of music they like, stuff like that.... of course now i feel weird adding all of them, since none of them added me! haha
  9. well, it's psychology, and they're ALL girls... which is why i was a little surprised. i mean, i'm sure it's nothing to worry about... i know that they are mostly still in undergrad (i'm not...) so i have a LOT more time on my hands than they do. thanks for the reassurance, though! i mean, when i reread it, i don't think it sounds weird or anything... i guess i'm just nervous and probably have a little TOO much time on my hands to worry about weird things.
  10. i really hope that this doesn't come across as a silly question, but... recently, we were given the contact information for the rest of our incoming classmates for next year. i got a couple of mass e-mails from a girl who was looking for a roommate, but since i am moving with my SO, i'm obviously not looking for someone to live with. anyway, i thought it would be nice to just send out something introducing myself and saying hi. well... this has been like 5 days ago and no one has responded. which wouldn't be that big of a deal, but i also said something like... "oh... feel free to add me on facebook if you want..." and no one has done that either... i guess i just wonder if i seemed a little overly excited or something... i don't know.??

i'm wondering the same... i've been looking at some of the property management companies, just to see who has a clear distinction between student rentals and "other" rentals. i went to oxford a couple of weeks ago and met with college property management and the lady seemed really helpful. she took us to a couple of nice apartments out in the country and also one in town on college (but it was designated grad/professional student housing only). they were one bedroom and $475. i think two blocks from uptown... anyway, she seemed really willing to listen to what we needed/wanted...
  12. i've got to agree with excel here... you did seem rather offensive and condescending. this is an open forum where people come to exchange questions and ideas... if the "u"s and "ur"s bother you so much, then don't read them.

hello! i definitely do not think that explaining the situation and asking if it would be possible to stay with a grad student is out of the question. one of the two schools that i interviewed at offered for us to stay with current grad students. i mean the worst that could happen is that they would say it's not possible...??

    Scared?

i definitely sometimes slip into worry-mode about not being able to keep up with my fellow students/impress my professors. i was ranked #1 in my incoming class, and got a special award, and i am afraid that once we begin, everyone will realize that i didn't deserve it and it should have gone to someone else... i know i am probably just being paranoid! but sometimes it's hard not to...
