  1. Thank you so much for providing the list. It is really helpful!!!!
  2. I have offers from two econ phd programs (UCSD and UWM). To decide which offer to take, I plan on doing campus visit next week and I am wondering what should I pay attention to and specifically look for to get as much info as possible during the campus visit? Any information is highly appreciated. Thanks a lot!!
  3. I got offers from these two programs and I am having a hard time deciding which offer should I take. I am wondering what sort of students are in these two programs (more international, Asian, really smart or just so-so...), what kind of studying atmosphere (competitive or cooperative), how is the student-faculty relationship? Any sort of info is welcomed! Thanks a lot!!!
  4. Thanks for your info!! You are absolutely right about the living cost. Compared to the small amount of stipend USCD offers (only 4.5k for the first year, and 1.7k for next 4, excluding the summer RA's 4k), my living expense might be a problem. But I will visit Madison next week and to see how I feel about the city, weather, and grad life. If I feel good, I might go for Wisconsin. Hopefully I will make up my mind then...
  5. Actually I checked the offer letter again. The precise stipend amount should be 4.5 k for the first year and 17k for the following 4 years (excluding the summer RA's 4k). Is this stipend amount really small compared to other programs? Will there be any chances that I can get more than the stated amount after I get admitted?? Hmmm...I guess I am just not that competitive as other admitted students...
  6. I am interested in labor economics and I know that WM has higher ranking in this area. Plus, WM offers me 15K assistantship for the first year and following years with fellowship ( amount TBD), while UCSD offers me only 8k for the first year and 21k for the next three years. But the problem is that I am a southerner and I just cannot tolerate cold weather in the north. Also, Madison is kind of "remote" compared to San Diego (or maybe I am wrong??), and I really don't want to spend my next 5 years in a countryside. I really want to hear from you guys as which offer I should take. I would appreciate any information from you about these two programs. Thanks a lot!!
  7. I have applied for about 15 universities for econ PhD, but have not yet heard from any of them... I know that OSU has already sent out bunch of admission and UVA sent out some interview invitation, but I heard nothing from those two schools...sign... I just cannot concentrate and keep thinking about the possible outcomes... Am I overreacting?? Are you feeling the same now?
