  1. Just an fyi for all who are wondering out about schools who may present acceptances without interviews, Princeton had a handful of their prospectives that never received interviews. In fact, the post about the grad student from that school was definitely the more accurate timeline. Three things to take away from this: 1. Despite many good intentions, the results page and postings may not be worth a damn in many cases. 2. Schools are definitely off their previous timelines. 3. Don't give up hope! In regards to Harvard: Only one person has mentioned interviews. One. For Harvard. I had some contact with some faculty there about a research question on February 10th. While applications were mentioned and people are usually good about breaking bad news if asked, there was no indication that make-or-break interviews had taken place. I would venture to guess that the likely scenario is that if interviews occurred on a wide basis, they were for international/domestic students that may not necessarily afford/be available for a in person visit. Remember, a request to visit or even funding for a fly out does not guarantee anything. While it definitely means that a majority will receive offers, until you are contacted with funding info and explicitly given the option to join the department, view every interaction as a psuedo-interview. Oh! And to all those waiting in the wings remember, most visiting weekends will be over by mid-March. Not only will that mean some people may not receive official offers, but that those accepted will hppefully be making a decision ASAP (In which case one may receive that eternally validating feeling of being called off the wait-list that may never have even been mentioned before). Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to bring info from experience, colleagues work in the process, and professor's knowledge/opinions to this time of rampant speculation! Hope it calms more nerves than anything!
  2. Great idea, nice job on the profits description! Sums it up nicely.
  3. A friend of mine at Columbia received and offer from Brown's Classics department (he applied for ancient history). So some preliminary offers have gone out! Not to bust any bubbles, but rather keep everyone up to date.
  4. Thanks for the correction! I've been checking emails/responding to posts/thinking while navigating the subway and buses so I apologize for any hastily written and inaccurate info! The Post-Bacc admission was welcome news (word travels fast and that application/academic history was very much so deserving of an acceptance) but it seems I need to slow down before sharing info I'm not entirely sure of...
  5. Classics, i.e. Philology, Literature, etc., is pretty much decided it seems (but a waitlist may exist, I'm not sure since I'm in the CLST program but still privy to the listserv of emails from it). No word on any waitlist with CLST, although besides the couple results on here, we haven't been informed of any specifics. PhD students were requested to volunteer for potential housing of visitors in March but no specific information like from the Classics department on how many, who, or when. I would assume that due to the late visiting weekends that there may be a second round (or at least a waitlist to go out immediately after any accepted visiting student denies their acceptance for elsewhere, as it seems was a trend in past years) but please don't quote me on it. It would be a tad out of line to request that kind of info from Dr. Vogt, especially if things aren't confirmed yet, although I wish I could be of more help!
  6. The classics department at Columbia has 6 accepted students coming in for visits. If you applied for straight classics and didn't get word hope may lie in a waitlist. The Classical Studies MA will hold interviews and be decided a few days to a week after the deadline, around the same time as Columbia and UPenn admit post-baccs. Good luck to all who applied/excited to meet those of you visiting for Classics and CLST!
  7. Congrats! Out of curiosity, who did you get the email from?
  8. Sorry that you haven't gotten an interview yet! Maybe only the international students were officially invited to prospective students week so far? The students in the program aren't told much (obviously) but I wish I could get you more info! And of course I understand it is a stressful time, in fact I only inquired out of curiosity and based on the praise that everyone gave the person who got in at UT at A since they received a positive response from the POI. Figured it was worth a shot since my fiancé received a job offer here in NJ that she needs to accept/reject soon and it would be an acceptable reason to ask so we don't get screwed come March or April
  9. Hey guys and gals! First time finally posting. I'm currently at Columbia as a MA student in Classical Studies. Have a relatively strong application laking German experience but still have decent Italian and have been doing the Latin survey and taking Graduate Greek courses to build on my undergrad. I applied to U of M's Interdepartmental Program in Greek and Roman History this round... has anyone heard anything from them yet? Is there an appropriate way to inquire about the status of an application with your POI?
