Frankly, I did not anticipate having options! What is everyone's process for choosing between (or dare I hope...among?) acceptances?

WHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT? I got into UNLV! Yay! Letters are going out today.
-
OSU Update: They won't be making decisions until March 4th. And then they're sending letters out the following week.
-
Cornell update from the department secretary: decision letters are being uploaded and will hopefully be done this week.

Alright, I have had it with the cone of silence. Other than my acceptance (woo!) I haven't heard a single thing from any of my applications. It would take a fortune in funding for me to turn down my current offer, so I figure I have nothing to lose. I've emailed my POI at OSU and asked what my status is, and I'm going to be emailing everyone else as well, either POIs or Grad Coordinators. February 24th is too damn late! Especially for OSU, because that application was due (for fellowship consideration) November 19th! I know that UMass HAS made final decisions; mine is the only result up there so either you guys who've applied have gotten in and just haven't heard yet, or I'm the only admit on gradcafe. I know that Boston U has made final decisions and has only admitted 2 people to the Archaeology department (I have no idea about the Anthropology department) and I noticed that there's an admit on the results board, so I'm guessing those 2 have already been notified and it's a no for everyone else. I also know that Cornell only admitted 6 people, so I'm guessing that's also a no for everyone else, based on the results board. UNLV has apparently made decisions but it looks like it might be the same deal with them that it is with UMass; either you've gotten in but haven't been notified or all the admits have been notified and only one of them is on gradcafe. February 24th is too damn late!

I'm apparently a glutton for punishment, so I'm actually going to try to buy a house this summer. My list is brief. A roof, some windows...that is all. My lease is up in June, so best case scenario, I'll pull it all off in time and spend a couple of months getting to know my new town before classes start.

THANK YOUUUUUU! I'm so excited I can barely breathe. My lungs have noped. And The Oatmeal was actually my inspiration to verbify "nope". The Godzilla who sees a bee or something and stomps back into the ocean going "NOPE!" and flipping off Tokyo. It was just so relevant to my thoughts and actions.

Anybody claiming that new Berkeley acceptance!?
-
I can NOT believe that some schools are taking so long this year. I thought the unwritten rule was that if you haven't heard by March, it's a no. But it looks like almost no one has heard from any of the schools I've applied to. Technically I haven't even heard from UMass itself, just my POI, and my online status still says "applied"! I know it's snowing on the East Coast but.....UNLV though? Really? Berkeley? I live next door and I'm in a sun dress, bro. Tick tock.

YEAH! I'm so glad we're all having a better year this time!

UNLV Applicants, you might not be done!!

...then you might be done! -
Throw in some kale flavored kombucha and I am there.

Yes, all decisions have been made, they just need to filter through the college itself. So I don't think anybody else has necessarily been notified yet, but official announcements will probably be either next week or the first few days of March, at the latest. My spire page is still saying "applied", so I'd never have known yet if he hadn't called me.
-
FYI, the grad coordinator, Ned, just got back to me saying that "everyone will be officially notified before the end of the month". So, not too much help there. He didn't give me any specifics about my application status either. ....boo.

First off, THANKS GUYS!!!!!!! It warms my cold, dead heart to see so many people excited for me. Second, apologies for not replying to you sooner, marxistglue, but I began partying my eyebrows off as soon as I got off the phone yesterday and forgot how to computer. All I know is that decisions HAVE been made; my POI said the process was intense and admissions were extremely competitive this year, and indicated that "the cohort this year is amazing". So if you receive an acceptance know that the admissions committee thinks you're hot shit, first of all. He also told me that this was an "unofficial" acceptance because the college needs to take a final look at the committee's picks, but that this was really an administrative formality and that paperwork was on its way. I think he was calling me because he's my POI and that's what he wanted to do, not because everyone was calling their students yet. Judging by the admissions results from last year I'm guessing I just got an early preview and that everyone else should hear next week (unless your POI also wants to call you). Other than that I got nothing! I am SO excited to be moving to Amherst, though I think (from the OBSESSIVE research I've been doing which was luckily NOT in vain) that I want to live in Northampton. I'll have to learn how weather works, but it's a challenge I'm willing to take on

Thanks guys!!! I'm so excited. I'm pretty sure I was doing the running man while he was talking to me on the phone....

AHHHHHHH I GOT IN TO AMHERST AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then my work is DONE!

See...here's the thing about GRE scores. This is my 3rd year applying. THIRD!!! And you wanna know what my GRE scores are? 167 Verbal, 162 Quantitative. So....kinda high. One of the POIs who rejected me last year said I had literally the highest GRE scores of all applicants to the program. Did it make a difference? No. No it did not. I have a feeling that unless your GRE scores are absolutely abysmal (as in, you typed in your social security number, mike-dropped, and then noped up outta there) you probably don't need to worry about the GRE. Do any of the repeat offenders remember that poster from last year, who was a faculty member, who was ranting about how annoying it was when prospective students contacted them? It's buried in the archives somewhere, but they basically said that instead of telling applicants "you weren't good enough" or some other variation thereof, they would indicate that they were rejected because their applications were incomplete. I have a feeling that "your GRE score was too low" is just a different version of that. I don't want to deal with the responsibility of explaining why I rejected you, so I'm just going to say your GRE is too low, because you're gonna think that's some kind of auto-fail and it's easier for me that way.

Gah! This application is more complicated than it looked! If you've applied to UNLV but you HAVEN'T applied to the Graduate Assistant/Scholarship application you may want to log back into ApplyYourself and do that. None of the info that they emailed you about MyUNLV is relevant until you get accepted, so ignore it. You need the PIN and password link that they emailed you right after you applied. PSA, yo.

I would be SHOCKED if it were anything other than a rejection, but I have zero tolerance for this staggered announcement policy. If you want to allow room for people to decline a position so that you can open it up to other applicants you create a WAIT LIST. If you only get one shot at a candidate and then lose their spot if they decline (which is shockingly inefficient but also seems to be the norm), then why the f%*#k don't you notify everybody at once!? Intolerable!!
-
Screw it, I've emailed. I'm guessing they're out of office today but if I haven't heard by Wednesday I'm going to call. I'm not waiting three months for a decision if I can help it!
-
Y'know...I think I'm going to email the DGS today. The application deadline was December! And I gather from the results page that they send out acceptance in the beginning of February and make you wait a month for rejections. I'm fence-sitting ever so slightly but I think I'm gonna do it. Frankly I'm sick of my mom saying "But you don't knoooooooow it's a rejection!"
-
I was just thinking about you Meglet! It's weird, isn't it? You can't really help but to take it personally!
-
Has anybody else ever looked for their specific school in the results page, just to make sure they haven't notified yet this year, and then forgot that they'd done that, and then revisited the page and peed their f@^c&@ng pants for a minute before they realized they were looking at previous years?
