I emailed Dr. Mathews, who I want to work with. He gave me more information on my place on the wait list.
-
Way to go on EKU! Who did you contact at BGSU? I emailed the faculty I am interested in working with directly and got a different message with more information.
-
I think you just have to email them.

I/O Hopeful 2016, BGSU is my top choice as well (two admission cycles in a row). You might want to send them an email to check on your status, I just did that.

From what I can tell a large number of programs have now had their recruitment weekends. Anyone able to share some updates on how things went? Anyone with multiple offers going to make decisions so the rest of us can maybe get off the wait list?

Interview/Interview Invitation Thread

Isn't LSU's Clinical program on probation from APA. From what I have been told by a clinical faculty here, a program has to be pretty messed up for APA to put its accreditation on probation and it doesn't happen often at all. -
You can report on your application pretty much whatever GRE combination you want. But when you request your scores to be forwarded, ETS is going to send all your scores, not just the ones you "want".
-
GRE scores are relative to the program you are applying to. And raw scores are't equal across people who take the GRE at different times (administrations). What programs look at are the percentages your scores fall into. For some GRE administrations a 140 might mean you are in the 70%, but for someone else at a different administration, a 140 might put them in the 75% (numbers made up). So please please please, if you feel the need to get reassurances from other applicants (who really aren't qualified to tell you if you are going to get into grad school) at least report your percentile scores instead of your raw scores, that is a better metric to judge against.

I/O Psychology phD program with a MA in health psych?

You might want to check out the Society for Occupational Health Psychology website on graduate training. A lot of the OHP programs listed are housed in I/O programs. http://sohp-online.org/gradtraining.htm -
My adviser was telling me how frustrating this point in the year is for the faculty in our program, and programs in general. The faculty keep getting emails from wait list students asking for updates. But they can't give updates because they are waiting for students who are holding on to multiple offers from other programs to decide. And they are loosing out on some of the the potential students because they are getting snatched up by other programs. I don't think I have ever seen my adviser this frustrated. I was told they have one student who informed them that they are trying to decide between four offers. My question is, who holds on to that many offers at once? I hope I have multiple offers to decide between next year when I am applying again to Ph.D. programs, but I promise to only hold on to my top one or two offers at any one point and let the others go as soon as possible :-)
-
Must be! But please tell me you aren't still holding on to all those offers? ;-)

UNH has a really good reputation in the North East. If you plan to go applied, and stay in that area, you will do fine.
-
So who knows where they are headed?
-
Exciting that you are going to BGSU!

That seems odd given their alumni page - seems most of their students go consulting. https://www.psyc.vt.edu/graduate/io/alumni

Shoebes and GoBruins, when you get back from recruitment weekend, can you post what you thought of BGSU? I'm finishing my masters and hope to apply there next year.

Hi! I got a really interesting email from a former adviser of mine. She knows I am thinking of getting my Ph.D. in I/O after I get my masters and thought I would be interested in the process from the program side. BGSU currently has 8 offers out and seven wait listed. She said their recruitment weekend is going to be 2/27, which is the same time as George Mason University and Wayne State University. She said she also heard that USF is trying to make invitations in the coming week, but it sounds like they make offers after students make a visitation. My adviser wasn't too clear about how that works. Does anyone else know anything to add? How do you pick which recruitment weekend to go to if you have several offers and all of them are on the same weekend?
-
Did anyone get last minute scramble offers?

Congrats

UConn, from what I know, is perceived as a much better program. But location may be an issue for some. I had really considered applying to UConn, I really liked the people there, but in the end, my significant other nixed moving to CT (still a bit bummed about that one).

Just heard from my POI at BGSU. They have had three students accept offers, and several more students decline their offers. He said they are waiting to hear back from three more students who currently have offers. Once they hear back on if they accept or not, they may go back to their applicant pool. He said that unfortunately until they hear back from those students with offers, their hands are tied.

I think it has more to do with Dr. Michel leaving for Auburn, and them being down to two faculty (or maybe fewer, I don't know).
-
Ok people holding offers, the deadline for decisions is coming up. If you are holding multiple offers, bully for you. Please, let schools know if you aren't going there that you aren't going there so they can pass your offer on to others (maybe me :-) ). Consider this I/O peer pressure :-)

Did anyone go to BG's recruitment weekend? If so, how was it? And did you get a feel for if they might be making more offers?
