  1. I am an international student, so FAFSA does not apply
  2. No email for me yet.. I am guessing that means no financial assistance from Ford.. hopefully they will send out a mail saying that
  3. I am trying to understand the strength of the Global Policy Studies (MGPS) Program at the LBJ School at University of Texas at Austin. It is fairly new program (started in 2008) with strong emphasis on international policy challenges. Though in terms of ranking and location the LBJ school does not compare with top schools, overall the University of Texas has a lot to offer. The Law School, Business School and other social science programs are well ranked. The cost of education is low. I wanted to get some feedback regarding what the prospects are for a student enrolling into MGPS this year. Can students from LBJ truly compete with schools like Ford, Maxwell, Columbia when it comes to getting placed in multilateral world organizations? Can anyone from MGPS or MPAff UT comment?
  4. Hi All, I am an international student with a strong background in engineering and interest in appropriate technology and development. I have admits from Ford School(U mich)for MPP and Maxwell School (SU) for MPA. I am trying to decide between the two. I intent to work on international development policy topics and would like to get into a multilateral world organization. Since I do not intend to work in US for a long time accruing a huge debt burden is not an option. Here is the deal. Maxwell is rated higher than Ford, but I am not sure if it has a stronger international development focus. Since I do not have any experience in the policy sector, I would have ideally preferred to be able to intern before looking for a full time job. Maxwell has a one year program, which does not give me a chance to intern, but on the other hand reduces the total cost. From the point of view of getting my foot into the door of a world organization which one of the two institutes should I prefer? Decision regarding financial assistance is still pending. A lot will depend on that. Please advise.
  5. Hi All, I need some help deciding if my choices for MPP programs are on the right lines. My Background Undergraduate : Electronics Engineering ( India ) Graduate: Masters in Electrical Engineering (top 10 university in US) Work ex: including internships, 2.5 years in reputed tech firms Interested in Public Policy because of experiences in developing economics (read India) Volunteered off and on for NGOs in US and India Additional Course work: couple of courses related to development and macroeconomics Interested in technology and development from the perspective of a developing country. I am looking for MPP programs with international focus which can eventually place me in organizations that work in emerging economies. The programs I am looking at are MPP Goldman School UCB MPP Maxwell MPA Development Practices SIPA Columbia HKS MPP I understand my transition is unconventional and I will have a good job explaining the reason for making this change. I am not sure to what extent my existing technical/analytical background will help me. Any advise?
