  1. Official rejection from Cornell. Finally, that concludes my application this year (see signature for result).
  2. OK a Columbia rejection might be coming in less than 36 hrs. But I have accepted JHU's offer anyway. ( although they are in spring vacation so I cannot finish the administrative process this week)
  3. I emailed Cornell and the DGS said their rolling admission system still has three spots but would send 12 offers to make sure three people would come in, so it is unlikely that I would get admitted. People who have not received any notification so far are on the tacit wait list (rather than the 50% applicants whom they rejected immediately ) but there is no official rank of order on that wait list.
  4. Second this. I emailed their DGS and administrative staff three times and so far received no reply. I am just waiting for the rejection so that I could commit to JHU.
  5. UCONN's department is a great place for studies of inequality, gender and race/ethnicity issues. Wish you luck as well
  6. Hey Geek I have withdrawn my application from Notre Dame. They said they would not admit me till second round due to funding reasons, but I already have ideal offers of admission so I rejected them.
  7. I have declined the offer from University of Virginia. Quite committed to JHU now. If there's anyone on the UVA wait list here good luck and hope my decision helps
  8. Congrats! I was rejected by Yale but I love the program. You are right that it's one of the few places in the US to get sociology PhD training that does not attach too much of emphasis on quantitative/posivitist methods. It has a strong theory and comparative-historical focus and a great toleration of interdisciplinary perspectives. As for the problem of academic identity, I believe it's something you could figure out by the time you write your second-year paper, take the qualification exams and become PhD candidate. Most people with interest in more than one subject or shift to another discipline in PhD will face the problem of narrowing their paths for their PhD studies ( I transformed from IR to sociology), but I think there must be a reason why you choose to do PhD of THIS rather than THAT discipline. Or perhaps you could just do sth like "sociology of literature production" or "sociology of African writers" lol. Anyway, congratulations again!
  9. I guess it means MAPSS, with a sociology track. UChicago does not offer terminal/free-standing sociology Master degrees.
  10. Withdrew my file from SUNY-Albany and Oregon. Requested withdrawal from UCSD.
  11. It is a very personalized offer. And perhaps the lady in the phone means "we are yet to send out any official letter" because what I received were emails and unofficial letter of acceptance from professor and chair in the department. Official letters would be out in a few days I guess.
  12. I sure understand your feeling. This is my second application for PhD program already and I just wanna say good luck and keep holding on everyone!
  13. I would claim an admission from Johns Hopkins University, and a rejection from Vanderbilt.
  14. Latest rejection from UC Berkeley and yet to (officially) hear anything else from other schools.
  15. It is so strange; I am not getting any email from Duke, and my application status has no new notifications.
  16. Maybe send an inquiry email to their DGS or admin staff?
  17. UCSD already issuing offer? Then I guess it's an "oops" for me
  18. I am from China. I could claim an early offer from University of Virginia and an interview by University of Notre Dame. Rejected by UW-Madison.
