This might just be overkill, but I thought it would be cool to have a place for social people post what specific schools (and perhaps professors?) we have all heard from all already- whether it be good or bad news. Personally, I'm going crazy trying to figure out if people have heard back from specific social programs yet or not! So, my future colleagues...any news??

I contacted one faculty member (I sent them a really nice long email about my interests and how it relates to their work). I put a lot of thought into it and asked if they would have the time to meet with me in person. The faculty member replied in a very terse manner that I could come to their office hours if I wanted to, but that its hard to say if there will be a long line of students waiting to meet with her then.
Is this negative? I felt a little stupid after taking so much time to craft my thoughts into a nice email should i stop by her office hours!?
Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with/ knowledge about how important having letters from famous professors is? Does this help push your app through? Can it cause admissions com. to take a second look at your app even if you don't have the highest GRE/GPA of the bunch? A source (professor and chair of a department) told me once that in his department all they look at are letters of rec and who writes them...
I'm 690 math, 650 verbal (those are my highest scores from both tests) ....I'm applying to a lot of reach schools, so I'm a bit worried that I didn't break the 700 mark.
(I hope in 10 years standardized exams will have become obsolete!)
Hello,
I'm applying for a PhD in the social sciences and was wondering if anyone had any advice/input regarding how many times one should take the GREs. I took them over a year ago and scored decently in the math, but not in the verbal. I took them again recently and scored decently in verbal, but a little less decently in the math. Would you guys recommend that I take it a third time? I feel that I could definitely do better (I had a slight panic attack during the math section this time). I'm not in the 700 range in either section but I fear that taking them again might seem like a desperate attempt to get lucky?
I would appreciate any help!
thanks!
