  1. Cornell! If anyone who is also going is lurking around these parts, feel free to get in touch. Congratulations to everyone on all these wonderful schools!
  2. When I called the department yesterday, they said that they were sending out a "first wave of rejections" (?!) "this morning" and that they were probably "making final offers [that day.]" So, idk? Maybe there's some hope that some of you who haven't received rejections will be admitted?
  3. The results page seems to be down, but claiming a UCLA rejection. Finally, on April 15th... I accepted Cornell last night! Good luck to those of you still on wait lists; I'm rooting so hard for all of you!
  4. Yeah, so I looked into that, and these potential losses seem to be a) not definite (though possible), unlikely to be immediate, and c) concentrated within certain areas. It wouldn't really affect me personally given my AoI's, though I can see it being a point to consider for others, depending on their interests. My understanding is that the professors in question have told the students who might work with them about this risk.
  5. I was accepted to Cornell, and declined my offer from Duke. I thought Duke's department was wonderful, and I hope this allows someone else to go!
  6. Anyone have any info re: the blog post above? (Feel free to PM me if you'd rather keep it discreet.) Also, UCR told me that I was at the top of their wait list, and I removed myself. I hope it helps someone else!
  7. Everyone I've contacted has directed me to Calvin Normore. My email and multiple phone calls to him have all gone unanswered thus far.
  8. So happy for you, Wakeupright! It's such an energetic and happening department!
  9. I've officially turned down offers from U Penn and Notre Dame. If you're considering those schools and you want any more information about my decision, please PM me. I hope it can help people on those wait lists a bit - On that note, just a friendly reminder to other people who may be planning to decline offers but haven't yet, that some of us who are on wait lists could really benefit from those timely notifications.
  10. Hey, I'll see both of you at Duke, Circle of Fourths and rachellou I'm going to the Duke and Penn visits next week, and Cornell the following week, so any of you who are also going should feel free to PM me if you'd like. So excited to meet potential classmates/colleagues/whatever we're calling each other at this stage!
  11. Oxford! (Actually pretty happy about it because it would have made for a complicated choice for me.) Congrats to the admits!
  12. If you're seriously considering a particular school because of a specific prof or two in the department there, what's an appropriate way to establish that interest?
  13. Thanks, I emailed Mark Wrathall too, and heard pretty much the same thing. My AoI's are action theory (which is why I applied to UCR), ethics, and philosophy of law.
  14. Whoops, sorry, read quickly, and then quoted the wrong post. Congrats to Monadology's girlfriend as well as to you, Matt. Are we expecting a Stanford wait list at some point? I highly doubt I would make it, but I'm curious.
  15. Monadology, same! It was kind of nice though, like, they hope we'll go to grad school... just not at Chicago haha
  16. Matt, your gf seems to be killing it! Congrats to her! Also claiming a UCR wait list. Anyone know more details?
  17. Oxford emailed me a few weeks ago to confirm they were reviewing my application (I had a transcript issue earlier), and they said they would notify successful applicants by mid-March. They also said their visiting date would probably be around March 17th, so I'm guessing they'll release acceptances at least a week before?
  18. My thought exactly. Pretty sure I said I didn't want to be considered for the MAPH, but I can't see anything about it on the application proof. That would probably explain our not having been contacted.
  19. Re: Chicago MAPH, I don't feel like we should be knocking a program that some people here might like to attend. I personally wouldn't take it in light of those funded offers I've been fortunate to receive, but that doesn't mean it's not a program that can fulfill people's needs and hopes. For the record, I actually haven't received an MAPH offer... I'm choosing to tell myself that it's because I wrote, perhaps a bit aggressively, that I wouldn't come to Chicago if they didn't give money on one of the funding questions, haha.Still, there is some evidence to suggest that admission probably isn't automatic.
  20. I have a bit more info on the WL at Cornell. I haven't seen any other posts from people on it, so just PM me if you're interested, I guess.
  21. Anyone else wait listed at Cornell? Anyone know how many people are on the WL, whether it's ranked (I'm guessing not based on the rather vague email), or how likely they are to dip into it?
  22. I was wait listed at Cornell! I actually just logged on here hoping to find out a little bit more about that wait list and what my chances might be to get off it.
  23. Yale's considerate rejection letter: "We could have wasted a stamp on you, but email allows us to reject you so much faster. Hope you don't mind." I actually lol'ed, but yeah, please don't send me a hard copy as well.
  24. Claiming the Georgetown rejection. It was definitely a top choice for me Congrats to the admits, though.
  25. Not sure how to answer the poll question in a way that is insightful and accurately describes my background. I have a B.A. from a very highly ranked SLAC, which wouldn't be in PGR since there is no grad school there. I also have a recommendation from a professor at a non-U.S. institution that features quite well in Leiter's world rankings. I'm currently pursuing a Master's degree, which is strictly speaking not just in philosophy, from another institution abroad. Most of the schools to which I have applied (fifteen total) have already made at least their first offers. I have two acceptances at this point.
