  1. Well, either way, I'm very happy with my current choices.
  2. Anyone planning to turn down Princeton? I imagine the people who got in there have long since left these boards, though...
  3. As someone who may very well turn down some big name schools for a better-fit school and program with less general name recognition, I have to say that fit is very important. You're going to be at the school you pick for 5-6 years. When you're happy and feel supported (not necessarily even financially, mind you), you are likely to do better work. The quality and originality of the work you do, in my opinion, matters more than the name. Furthermore, you have to differentiate between how political scientists will perceive the name and how the general public will perceive the name. We are mostly on an academic track, so our school's standing among our peer group - particularly people within our SUBFIELD that will ultimately be evaluating our work - matters more than how our friends and family will react. My two cents.
  4. Thought I'd start a thread about turning down programs to give waitlisters as much peace of mind as is reasonably possible. I've turned down USC, UT-Austin, Georgetown, and UNC-Chapel Hill thus far.
  5. A note to waitlisters - I just turned down UNC-Chapel Hill.
  6. Unfortunately, my guess is that USC is more or less done. I was accepted there a while back...their visit day already took place and I got several e-mails addressed to all the admitted students. Maybe they are keeping an informal waitlist? If so, you guys might have some hope because I turned down their offer.
  7. MIT admits - what part of the country are you in? Thanks.
  8. I may be up the creek on this one, but if you're not planning on attending Princeton, please notify them soon.
  9. I second that for Princeton (although I'm grateful to have some other great acceptances).
  10. I was one of the USC admits, but I was notified early because I was offered a fellowship. I don't know if they've sent out all their decisions. Their visit day is in early March, though.
  11. Does anyone have a sense of how Princeton's waitlist works?
  12. Wait-listed at Princeton. Anyone else get this?
  13. In at Duke for public policy - political science track
  14. Also axed by Yale. It wasn't a great match, anyway.
  15. I'd also like to hear more about UCSD's financial aid if possible. Thanks!
  16. Sure they CAN be sent from home, but would they? Who knows, really.
  17. Yes, something is definitely fishy with Princeton. Anyone know if they are even open?
  18. Now someone is apparently waitlisted at Princeton. Has anyone here heard anything at all from them?
  19. To those of you waiting for Northwestern...I applied there last year and didn't get my official rejection until mid-April sometime. I think they hold on to some of the applications after sending out the first wave of acceptances, because 3 or 4 people were admitted last year in March or April. There were several waves of rejections. I hope that helps.
  20. Re UT-Austin, it seems like a mass e-mail, not personalized. Yes, I like Austin a lot.
  21. I claim one of the UT acceptances. Posted under 'Government'
  22. I have no idea what I'm going to do yet. I'm still waiting on a bunch of programs and I haven't gotten financial info from most of my schools save UNC and USC. I applied to a lot...apparently too many. Oh well. You never know how this process is going to pan out.
  23. I claim USC. I'm IR. It was a personalized e-mail, so don't worry too much yet.
