  1. I have a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and want to complete my Masters either in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering. What are the top colleges you advise me to apply to? Also, what scores do I need to get? I know that they mostly care about the quantitative section of the GRE. My quantitative score is 720. Can you give me info on some safe-pick colleges that are a lock to accept me? I`m looking to pile up as many admissions as possible and then make my decision. By the way, I`ve been accepted to the following so far: 1) Louisiana State University 2) Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University 3) Milwaukee School of Engineering 4) Florida Atlantic University 5) Florida Institute of Technology
  2. I`m having problems with the GRE Powerprep. I have windows vista and its not working properly. I was just asking if the real GRE questions are of the same difficulty or if the book`s questions are easier. Are they of the same difficulty?
  3. I have studied some of the GRE Book for Dummies. They have two practice tests at the end. Are they a real indication of what the exam is like? How do they compare to the real thing? Here is a link for the book so you can download it and see: http://www.2shared.com/file/10533688/5a07b8ee/2D-ex.html
  4. Could you tell me the exact steps I have to take in order to get it working?
  5. I have been hearing from test takers that the GRE POWERPREP software is the most accurate practice test. However, I downloaded and tried using the software, and it seems that it doesn`t work on a 32 bit Windows Vista. Does any one have the test in a pdf format or any other type of format? Also, do you suggest I take other practice tests that are just as reliable or close to it? Thanks in advance for your help.
  6. Can anyone please take the time to view the test?
  7. I found this practice GRE math section. Here is the link to it? Are the questions like this? This one was pretty difficult. What about the style of the problem questions, are the same or less difficult? How accurate are the results compared to the real GRE? What practice tests are most like the GRE? http://www.800score.com/loadergre.html
  8. Thanks alot for the review. I will make sure to fix these mistakes. By the way, English is my first language its just that I was rushing when I was typing and did not double read it for mistakes. Does everyone else feel the same?
  9. I wrote a sample issue essay and would like those of you who took the GRE to tell me what approximate score i`ll get. Also, please let me know what I can improve on and how I can improve it. Issue Topic: In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach. Essay: Universities can indeed improve the quality of instruction by hiring faculty that have work experience relevant to their field. By doing so, professors would pass practical knowledge to their students. While it may be difficult for some majors to be have any work experience in their respective field, it should be a desired option for universities. Being a mechanical engineer major lead to the formation of my opinion. For example, courses such as heat transfer and fluid mechanics would be mainly theoretical if a professor without a working experience had taught them. In class, the student can learn what the heat equation is and learn how to solve problems using it. However, he wouldn`t have a clear perspective on how to apply it as a working engineer. But the professor would be able to speak about real life experiences where he had to apply such theories. Also, faculty that remain engaged in their field are up-to-date with the latest developments. They can bring that knowledge to the classroom and give students a perspective on what to expect after graduation. It can also help students decide in which particular field they want to work in. This may be the case for applied sciences but it may be difficult to for mathematicians, sociologists,or historians to combine education with relevant experience in their profesional field. Jobs in these fields are scarce and most of the education is theoritical. In sum, I concur that universities whos faculty has relevant work experience offer a better quality of education and prepare students for future experiences. I believe that it is a must for applied science faculty to have work experience, but not necessary for other majors.
