  1. Whoever said that he/she was accepted to Hogwarts and is studying under Dr. Snape on the spreadsheet is hilarious LOL! Needed the laugh
  2. Whoa~~~~ at least the Mexico applicants know their notification date! Now.... who wants to volunteer and send an email for the Korean Fulbright office? Haha
  3. Jordan also released their notifications. Ya know, I'm starting to get to the point where I don't want to know. Lol one email could change it all... that's a powerful, scary email hahaha. Korea applicants, it's probably going to take a bit longer for us not just because of the delay for the first round of notifications but also because we have 10 new graduate degree grants - like a third category. Soooooo let the waiting continue~~~~~ Question for everyone: for my country's stats for last year, the stats show that last year, 19 out of 46 applicants were given grants. I know for a fact that Korea awarded 25 grants for that year. so does this mean that some people didn't accept the offer or that some people dropped out of their program early? I'd really appreciate some input on this. Just wondering...
  4. Greece~~~~ so, I guess they're just gonna finish up Europe....and slowly make their way to the Pacific Ocean~~~~
  5. ISRAEL just sent out notifications too!!!!!!! OMG Korea~~~~ today was supposed to be your day...
  6. Ahhhh, same here! My college has only had 5 or 6 Fulbright scholars over a span of 32 years (back when there was a West Germany! haha). None of them have ever gone to Asia. I hope to be the first! Fingers crossed for all of us!
  7. Here's an idea I've been playing with. Maybe most notifications will be a week or two later than when they usually come out since our first round notifications were sent out about a week or two later than last year's date? I hope that's not true but it's a possibility.... notifications have been a bit slow this year...
  8. Oh yeah, same here! I wouldn't have been able to have such a life-changing experience without Gilman. I only hope that with Fulbright, I can finish what I started there. Their kimbap (Korean version of sushi) was to die for.... I loved Korea so much that even after my Master's program (if awarded a Fulbright), I'd like to stay another 5 years to a decade (if not permanently) haha Spain~~~! I went when I was in high school with my Spanish class. Where do you plan to carry out your project? I think my favorite city in Spain was Barcelona. That sunrise over the Mediterranean was mesmerizing... not to mention the cool architecture! I didn't have an interview with my school. I applied at-large. I graduated last Spring. I wanted to apply through my school but my adviser was super discouraging, unresponsive, and unhelpful. He made it clear that he had very little faith in me haha Plus he wanted me to take time off from my full-time job to drive 4 hours away to have the interview where a simple Skype call would have sufficed. So I went rogue haha But I received a lot of help from my college's head of the writing department which I'm super grateful for. In the end, I'm glad that I applied at-large rather than through the school. If it was up to him ranking me, I probably wouldn't have made it this far.... Using your instincts can be key in things like this lol
  9. Btw! NORWAY just released their results today according to the spreadsheet. I guess Fulbright still has Europe fever haha Come on Asia!!!!!
  10. japaniia! Yes! I am a Gilman alumni as well! I went to South Korea with my scholarship in the Fall of 2012. It twas an AMAZING experience! Of course during application season, I asked in one of the webinars if being a Gilman alumni will help your application any. They did say that it's a big plus! But still, that doesn't mean we're guaranteed a Fulbright. But seeing that the Gilman scholarship is the undergrad version of Fulbright, I'm sure it makes the app look very..."pretty" or "kawaii" for Japanese hahaha But seriously, the IIE has been teasing me with these alumni emails. I really hope that's a good sign..... I also have been re-reading my app. I think my project is pretty innovative, but now that I've done so much more research on my topic, I see where I could have written an even better proposal with more exciting components. But hey, we all were recommended right? So I guess someone thought it was pretty good the way it was haha Gotta stay positive ( in between the mini Fulbright freak-outs that is hahaha)
  11. Olioliwoo, no problem! :-) But I encourage you to go back to page 81 where Torrid posted an acceptance letter. It does say something like "if you decide that you don't want the grant within the next few upcoming months, you should notify the IIE immediately." I know most people make their decisions withing the next 1 to 2 months after the notification has been sent though. And you know, sometimes people don't turn in all of their documents on time along with other exogenous factors that may force someone to back out. So...still a bit of a waiting game, but there's still some hope for ya! :-)
  12. Olioliwoo, Fulbright gives grantees about a month to make their final decisions last i checked.
  13. I forgot who did the whole numerology thing to guess that today is Korea's notification day, but i realllllllly hope you're right! Lol 57/35 are good odds generally speaking. I just wish i knew how many of those applicants applied for the 10 grad degree grants. I have a friend who was just accepted to a Korean University for grad school and she bought her flight ticket and everything. Happy for her, but it made me super antsy about Fulbright. *sigh* Best of luck to all Fulbright potentials today! Any news from any country is encouraging at this point haha
  14. Whoa! Iceland sent out notifications last Friday too. I wonder what country is next... Come on Korea! I think Madonna's song explains the waiting situation perfectly. "Time goes by so slowly~~" http://m.youtube.com/results?q=madonna%20time%20goes%20by&sm=1
  15. Piggybacking off of GnosisExchange, the final selection emails are sent from the IIE or from US Student Programs?
  16. Basicly, to be a Rhodes scholar, you had to have been one of those people who did something ridiculously amazing like a person who happened to build a school for underpriviledged children in a 3rd world country by him or her self when he/she was 7 years old. Lol seriously I always wondered where and how did those people find the time, place, and connections to do such things. Lol i just wanna tell them "Fulbright people are pretty awesome too ya know~~~!" But jeeez, I didn't think they would be out right discriminatory in the economic sense... :-/
  17. Congratulations AnnErGo! :-)
  18. I'm not sure if this is just my phone or not, but it looks indonesia's info is gone =( looking at all of those "acceptances" gave me hope! =( who created the document? Are they the ones who can put restrictions on it?
  19. Congratulations to those lucky enough to be principal and alternate candidates! I'm wishing the best for your futures :-) as a fellow Fulbright applicant it truly saddens me to see some of you not being selected but I hope that things work out for the best for your future and you will somehow be able to go to the place that you dream of. In other Fulbright news it appears that Nepal has released notifications according to the spreadsheet! The date Is unknown though. also, a sincere thanks to all those who share their information to the spreadsheet. It's really helpful! My fellow Korea applicants, i think you guys are right about Tuesday, but I think I've gotten to the point where i have become afraid of my email. Not sure if I wanna know anymore hahaha Is there anyone else who keeps looking back over statistics and trying to figure out your chances of getting principal, alternate, or non- select? I'm thinking 50 percent principal 25 percent alternate and 25 percent non-select. just a guess.. lol
  20. Oceanblue, i had a dream about Fulbright today too lol I assume this is normal. We have the Fulbright syndrome or "fulbrightis"? Lol
  21. According to the spreadsheet, someone was promoted to principal status today for Romania! Congratulations to him/her! :-)
  22. Tomorrow.... notification e-mailing begins again~~~! Well, hopefully... hahaha
  23. I hope the link works For those of you who don't know, this is the link to the forum that talks about early termination of a Fulbright. The few countries mentioned in this forum was Korea, Germany and France from what I can remember. I think the best response was from a Brazil ETA scholar who said "You signed up for cultural exchange. This is a learning experience. You chose this opportunity so finish it out!!! You are not in danger so just remember what you are doing. When you leave you will regret it." It sounded like something a parent would tell their child lol but those words were so right. Others sort of went the "resume route". Some stories are inspiring, others...well, you'll see. But read the whole thing before you judge. I personally would stick it out but I guess it's not for everyone. You never really know how you'd react in these situations unless you're put in them. :-/
  24. I'm just shooting some thoughts out into the atmosphere really. lol Pay no attention to my worries. I'm just the type of person who likes to braise myself for the worst outcome in case it happens (as well as prepare for plan B through J haha). But whether I get a Fulbright or not, I definitely won't let that stop me! I think this is just the first time I've actually put my life on hold for something like this. And yes, I am one of those people who constantly refreshes her email every hour haha I know there are some others out there that feel the same way. I am proud of making it to the preliminaries though. We all should! It is an honor. But this waiting process feels like i'm a little kid again playing with a Jack-in-the-box with that annoying song playing non-stop and you're just not sure when it's going to pop out! I feel horrible for anyone who has to wait all the way until May! haha Aside from this, I saw that there was a new forum on grad cafe for Fulbrighters who want to quit their study/teaching early and go home. I just stared at the screen like this --------> Unless someone close to me passed away (God forbid!) I could not imagine that....but I know life happens... :-/ Anyway, I can't wait for next week! Hopefully there will be tons of notifications for lots of people on here whether it's my country or not. I wanna see results!
  25. "Just remember everyone, that Fulbright CARES about us. It seems like the process takes forever, but dealing with each country's politics and regulations is no easy feat. I promise they are not sitting around laughing maniacally. " my project doesn't have to do with anything political, economical, or anything regarding the usual topics with Korea. but it's an intense historical challenge for both parts and I'm really passionate about it. But because my project is so unique and a bit "edgy" I'm very nervous as to how Fulbright's Korean Commission will take to it. Lol I do wonder if fulbright really cares about topics that haven't really been explored. whenever I look at past projects I often see the same topics being done but from "different angles." and though my project passed the first round, I often wonder if I should have just done a normal topic to make them feel "comfortable" haha
