  1. Thanks!!!! Already what I was thinking... it helps to hear it though.
  2. Hey all I'm trying to learn more about SFAIs program if anyone has any insight to share!! they accepted me via email the other day and they'fe offering about 13,000 in grant/ rest in loans through the school. SMFA is offering me a 14,000 merit scholarship and I really love their program, but I guess it would be silly of me to blindly accept SMFA without learning more about SFAI...
  3. Accepted to SMFA in Boston!!!!!!!!!!! 14,000/year merit scholarship! SO HAPPY. DYING. anyone else hear from SMFA? Anyone know what the whole 10,000 grant average per MFA student thing is!!!? is that going to be in addition to scholarships!?
  4. okay great! that eases my nerves. Congratulations!
  5. Thats great news!! I'm waiting to hear back from them... did they call you because you emailed them or are they calling most people? Does it seem like they're calling accepted prospects and mailing rejections?
  6. Hey congratulations! That is wonderful news. If I were you, I would wait till around the 20th and if there's no word from massart then I would call MassArt and ask. At the latest I'd at least call on the 24th, monday, cause maybe they won't be able to tell you right away when you call... so you probably want to give them a few days before your deadline for SFAI. Good luck!
  7. does anyone have any post-interview SMFA news? I'm anxious. It seems last few years they notified around the 15th via snail mail but in previous years they used to call.
  8. Hey congrats!!!! Tyler has an AMAZING program and brand new facilities and studios in a really amazing city. just sayin. You might want to check with them about finances, but they usually also offer to pay tuition while you TA and give you a stipend. Most of the painting grads would do that 2 or 3 out of 4 semesters.
  9. hey there fishing! Unfortunately I really think no interview means no acceptance for schools which do hold interviews and especially schools who hold big interview events. I often wonder the same thing... having not been extended certain interviews, and there is no one who can tell you that idea is 100% true or 100% false... so there is a chance and I would just wait for some concrete answer, but I wouldn't expect too much I think. As for your professors, they definitely want you to go to school! If you have to apply again next year they can attest to the improvement in your portfolio in addition to anything they have said about your work in their last letter. I would keep the same professor. They must get asked all of the time, it's not really as much of a hassle for them as you think. They want the reputation of their school to grow after all!
  10. Thank you!!! That helps. Congratulations on your acceptance!
  11. Yeah definitely! I am not really sure about my status, I don't want to assume because you never can tell! I've been super nervous waiting to hear back as I'm sure everyone is......... but in my personal opinion my interview went reeeeeally well. The guy interviewing me asked me great questions and we basically had a really interesting conversation about the status and state of painting. Since I majored in both sculpture and painting in undergraduate my paintings are conceptually involved with the space they occupy and aware of themselves as objects. We talked about a lot of things and we both were very focus on the interdisciplinary aspects of the program. At the reception my interviewer approached me with the head of the program, Mary Ellen, and said "Hi Alex this is Mary Ellen I thought you two should meet." Then she basically asked me if I was interested in the travel grants the school offered.... and i felt REALLY STUPID because I was not aware. I talked to her about my semester studying in Rome and she seemed pleased. I should have also mentioned that I liked the impact traveling had on my work so much that when I graduated from Tyler I spent about 3 weeks couch surfing in Paris seeing the Louvre, D'Orsay, galleries, and actually meeting some interesting people who made DIY galleries in abandoned buildings. I didn't want to sound impersonal and like I was selling myself too much I guess though, because I guess we were having more of a friendly conversation!? I have no idea where I stand with anything and am too nervous for my own good, but I think I handled things alright and came off confident and comfortable. WAITING IS THE WORST THING haha. I hope we both get in, this school felt really right to me. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
  12. hey i know rutgers mason gross was calling people a week or two ago accepting for certain departments and i still don't think I've seen anyone post that they've gotten accepted for painting! If you have been accepted please share! Also, did anyone from the SMFA interviews and have thoughts to share about the program? Im curious. The head of the masters department spoke with me and told me she is really proud of the school's standing as one of the most interdisciplinary mfas programs in the country. (She said 'the most' rather than 'one of the most' but she is also in a position to sell.) Just wondering what anyone else thought because I was actually really impressed aside from the size of the grad studios.
  13. Damn, my owl never came!
  14. I haven't heard from Rutgers painting yet either. It seemed like the people who have heard from Rutgers already were applying for photo and maybe one other department. There still might be a chance. Also since they are calling instead of emailing it might take longer. Who knows! I wish rejections went out sooner, I'd like to stop speculating haha
