Thanks--how many credits would a graduate student normally take in a semester? I'm thinking seven or eight?
-
Cheer up--it looks like you've already been accepted at two schools
-
What about tuition? That's expensive, right?
-
Does anyone have any information about UNC? There were a few acceptances a while ago, and now nothing? Should those that have not been accepted (like myself) assume that they are going to be rejected? I don't know how or why anyone might know this stuff, but I thought that I'd throw it out there.

I received an e-mail from my potential adviser at Wisconsin with no mention of funding whatsoever. I am trying to set up a telephone call with her in order to (hopefully) get better information about the funding situation.
-
If you don't mind, what's your colleague's field? I'm on pins and needles re Duke....
-
I'm basically just waiting for the rejection notice from Yale at this point... total bummer.
-
Eponymous, when you say that you think that there are four or five other offers, do you mean specifically to students of Latin American history, or from the history department generally?
-
I've heard pretty much the same thing about MAPSS--doesn't seem like an attractive option.
-
There is one Duke admit (and one rejection) in the results list.
-
I'm not very hopeful about getting a funded position at UCLA, given the financial situation of the UC system.
-
Do you happen to know whether that means no-one will be funded during their first year at all, or will graduate-school fellowships (which have always been hard to get, as I understand it) still be available?
-
Cool--your applications overlap with mine somewhat, though our fields are totally different (yours sounds very interesting, BTW).
-
Like others on this board, the anxiety is starting to get to me....
-
I don't know. I suppose that I could ask my potential adviser for information, but I don't really feel like spazzing out about it at this point.
-
As far as I can tell from the information on the University of Wisconsin graduate school's web-site (see below), historically, roughly 1/4 of full-time history graduate students are funded by university fellowships in any given year. Since fellowships usually apply to the first and fourth years of the PhD program, and generally come with teaching or research assistant positions for the second and third years, the fraction of full-time students that recieve funding packages based on fellowships may be significantly higher than 1/4, but that's unclear from the information provided, since they don't break it out that way. http://www.grad.wisc...s/1082/499.html

Wasn't me--now I'm worried about Duke too
-
As far as I can tell, you can't check your status online. Very weird--hard to imagine that anyone would troll this site....
-
Assuming that things work out, I'll be 29.
-
I don't expect others to come real soon, although I believe that we are supposed to hear back from Yale in February.
-
Chill--I wouldn't be nervous. I was under the impression when I was submitting applications that University of Wisconsin admission decisions come back relatively early (I may have read something to that effect somewhere on their web-site). Of course, nominal acceptance is only part of the process at Wisconsin--there's an additional funding round for fellowships (as I understand it).

Make that eight at the University of Wisconsin--looks like I've been recommended for admission as well. I wonder when we'll get more information....
