  1. Well... I live in South Korea so it will cost more than $2,000 to buy a round trip ticket to Boston...... I think it's the opposite site of the Earth (15 hours flight). I will visit if they ask but if not, I will move to US in mid July. Contractulations NuclearFlea for the RA package. We will meet in a conference someday haha. For the bright future of nuclear energy !
  2. Finally....I've come to the end. Today morning, I received an email from Michigan notifying that I am in the waiting list. However, this afternoon, the FedEx package I had talked about before has arrived and it was an acceptance letter from MIT NSE. Wierd thing is that I applied to their MS program but I got a PhD admission with sufficient fundings. Super excited! I am going to send emails to other universities to tell them stop reviewing my application. I appreciate all of you in this thread for giving advises and hope you all to get admissions from universities you want.
  3. Wow. More and more people are joining this thread. Thank you very much for the helpful information. And thank you and best wishes to you also SWEI! May the force be with you.
  4. Well.. this can be a bit off topic but I wonder how you guys think about the future of nuclear industry and R&D in the United States. (I found most of you are Americans) Based on what I've heard, some high ranking universities such as Stanford and UCLA once had nuclear engineering programs but they disappeared one day. Also, other universities such as University of Maryland splitted their nuclear engineering department and put it to materials engineering and reliability engineering. Now, there aren't many nuclear engineering programs... (This is visible when you see US News graduate school ranking) The reason why I'm asking this is because I do want to get a job in US after my graduate studies if given the chance. (I also heard that it is very hard to get a permanent job in national labs without a citizenship)
  5. Michigan told us to apply for the PhD program if the final degree plan is PhD regardless of the current degree of the applicant holds ( BS or MS). Because of this, I think applying to the MS program will look like you are going to get a MS degree and that's all. No PhD. Also, they sometimes give MS admission to PhD applicants. So I think the probability of being funded will be very low...
  6. To SWEI: I also applied to Mit (MS) and Berkeley (MS/PhD) nuclear engineering programs. I did not get any answer from Berkeley but Mit sent me a postal mail this Monday. The delivery will take about a week because I am an international applicant. I have no idea what this will be because there were no notice regarding my admission until now and the application website stayed the same. To PBD: I also got a PhD admission from Texas AM nuclear engineering in early Feb but no words on funding yet. I think the delay is happening because I am an international student... Anyway, Mit MS and Michigan PhD are my priorities.... I hope the postal package to be a letter of acceptance. I will post here when it arrives.
  7. Thank you for the information and advices!
  8. Another MIT admission. Search the result. His (or her) GPA and GRE scores are perfect... However, one thing to remind is the two results came out in mid Feb... Would this be because they were PhD applicants? Will they also send an email notifying rejections?
  9. Wow. April............ I cannot (will not) wait until April... Thats beyond my patience. Mid March will be my limit. Also some institutions ask to decide whether to enroll or not around late March, aren't they?
  10. Wow, someone got an acceptance from U of M and someone from Mit. Check the result search. Are those guys among you?
  11. Wow. Congractations! No news for me...
  12. Ahh.... tired of waiting.... Anymore news??
  13. I am interested in computational reactor physics. To be specific, Gen4 reactor calculations for optimal designs or feasibility analysis of new-concept reactors. Or, improving the existing methods of Monte Carlo simulation codes for better accuracy and faster calculations. This will be determined by which university I go.
  14. Cool! Good to see you 1535nuke. All three of us got at least one admission until now. This is good! Maybe we will be able to meet in a conference in the near future lol. Best wishes for the remaining ones. Also best wishes for myself~
  15. Well, I asked the department about when the results will come out and they said they are reviewing now and told me there are 155 applications... Anyway, good luck for the remaining ones and lets keep posting here if the results come out!
  16. Wow, good to see you posting here! I do not know much about plasma physics since my undergraduate study was focued on fission reactors. Anyhow, congractulations for being accepted from Wisconsin and good luck with Michgan! According to what I've heard from Michigan is that the number of applications is 155 and they are still reviewing them. Some applicants may have offered an interview. I hope this give yous some info. BTW, may I ask if you are going to choose Michigan even they give you a Master of Science admission? I believe you have applied to the Ph.D program. As I heard, MS admission does not offer any fundings and you need to reapply for the Ph.D program if you want to continue your study. (Not 100% sure though)
  17. Hi guys, let's keep updating posts in this thread. It is so hard to find nuclear engineering students. These are my application status and results. MIT - waiting Michigan - waiting Texas A&M - unofficial admission from committee (Ph.D). Fundings not determined yet. UC Berkeley - waiting (department staff said the results will come in late Feb. but I do not expect good results. The professor I had made a contact does not accept students this time) NCSU - waiting (Do not expect good results. Same reason as UCB) Btw, I am an international student with 3.7/4.0 GPA (3.85/4.0 in major) and graduated this month with a BS degree in nuclear engineering. My GRE scores are V/Q/W - 152/170/3.5 (Yeah.. not good enough). I have 1.5 years of research experience; university lab (1year), nuclear based research institute in another country (4months) and now working at a domestic nuclear based research institute. I have no publications but won several competitions related to my major and won scholarships every semester.
