I've heard mixed reviews. I personally know a few SLPs who were CDAs first. But each school has a different reputation. I think every application is so unique that they consider everyone differently. I have heard that UofT likes fresh grads, but at the same time I know two SLPs who are practicing now and they were both rejected the first time around and got in after becoming a CDA and working for a few years. Really a hard question to answer! But yes, CaraL's point is also very valid. They evaluate you differently if you have a masters and you are applying.

CONGRATS DEAFAUDI AND CLEVERUSERNAME!!!!

p.s. Congrats Saly and everyone else who has gotten in! I went a day without checking the forum and now I am so behind in my congratulatory wishes!

Hey alanakir, There isn't a specific Canadian admissions page (at least I don't think so). I've just been monitoring the general results page and narrowing my search down to "speech-language pathology" and organizing by date. McGill is inconsistent with updating their portal, I believe. Some people had their status change very abruptly with little time in between. Mine went from complete and "Submitted" back to "Incomplete" in early February. Then after receiving emails and messages instructing me to reupload documents and exchanging messages (it was all very confusing) with the Administrator through the portal, my status was changed to 'In Review' on February 11th. On the same date the Administrator confirmed that they had received everything and that they had changed my status manually. I got my acceptance last Wednesday on March 12 and after receiving the "Significant Decision Made" email, I checked the portal and my status was "Decision Made." Bear in mind that it has been different for everyone, regardless of whether or not they have heard back yet. I wouldn't be too concerned since a lot of people are still waiting and they are in the same situation as you! Good luck! I can't wait until April 1st. Fingers crossed for everyone!!!

PsycD, what exactly did you apply to at each school?!

I'm actually finishing my 4 year honours degree a year early, so I had a lot on my plate with my thesis and everything - so I didn't end up writing the GRE. I did do Audi 402 online with UBC, but I really didn't like the way that course was structured and I didn't feel like I could handle Audi 403 this year as well, so I thought I'd take a gamble. So glad that McGill wants me hahaha! I'm not really sure what my first choice would be...I vowed to go anywhere that takes me so I guess I'll really only think about it after April 1st! Lots of things will help me decide i.e. funding, whether or not I can commute (and save money), and international reputation of the school in job markets outside of Canada How about you?

Esselpy, hang tight! I think tomorrow they will start updating the portals and sending out mass emails. I just have a feeling!

I think McGill is definitely a little bit off this year. Despite getting the "significant decision made" email on March 12, I got the recommendation for admission email this morning at 11am too, beaschwa (p.s. Congrats, maybe we will see each other there in the Fall!). EVERYONE DON'T GIVE UP HOPE!!!! Also, congrats kay0928! I'm a little bit freaked at how similar our stats are. This is also my first time applying to SLP as well and I also only applied to UofT, Western, and McGill. Our cGPA and sGPA are really really really close. I think the biggest difference is volunteer experience! Who knows, maybe we will be classmates at one of the three in September! Best of luck on April 1st!

Chin up! This is going to happen for you and I will be the first to put on one of those tshirts to back you up if schools decide to be stupid. KNOW THAT YOU ARE ALSO ONE OF THOSE AMAZING, KIND, AND TALENTED PEOPLE AND YOU HAVE OUR FULL SUPPORT!!!

...I definitely had a full bottle last night..

Hey CaraL, I definitely got my acceptance on March 12th , so I bet the system's a little bit wonky. EVERYONE DON'T LOSE HOPE! And the alcohol. I dig that.
-
Also, I got an email from Western giving me a Western ID number. I know we don't find out until April 1st, but have other Western applicants gotten this email? Keep a look out for it in the coming weeks if you haven't yet!

My friend who got a call from UBC on Feb 20th says they didn't have any information for her on funding yet; so her call was just acceptance and she didn't get called early because she got a scholarship. I think maybe UBC was just getting a head start this year? I have no idea. Or maybe doing it in waves.

CONGRATS KCKC! Maybe we will be classmates in September!!!! And PsycD, you really do keep everyone sane!
-
Thanks nicolafloo! HANG TIGHT! I hope you hear back soon!!!
-
Deep breaths! It might be showing up differently on everyone's accounts and as PsycD said, it's possible for statuses to change quickly!
-
Thanks 2014 Appy! Congrats to everyone who has heard so far! Good luck to those who are still waiting! xjmi, I just remembered. My status was 'submitted' after the deadline for applications, but earlier last month I got a few emails and messages from the portal that said some of my transcripts needed to be re-uploaded. My status has been listed as 'In Review' ever since I uploaded new documents (until today, that is). I think you should check for some internal messages on the portal - I didn't even notice them at first (they are on the left side after you sign in). I got a few messages from the 'Administrator' and it was a little bit confusing because apparently, they wanted me to reupload the pre-req form too, despite only asking for transcripts. I needed to get a lot of clarification from them because the instructions were quite unclear. If your status is currently 'Submitted' and not 'In Review,' I encourage you to follow-up with the university!

Thanks Esselpy! I hope you hear back soon!
-
Thank you paidean! Best of luck to you on your applications!!
-
p.s. Thank you - for your words of encouragement and your kind reassurance earlier. It really helped to keep me sane. I hope we'll get a chance to meet in the near future.
-
I definitely will!! It feels like all the pressure and anxiety has been lifted off my shoulders. Now at least I know, I will become an SLP!!!! To everyone who is still waiting, BEST OF LUCK! I HOPE TO HEAR SOME GOOD NEWS FROM YOU GUYS SOON. HANG TIGHT!!!!
-
Thanks xjmi! I got an email with the subject line "Significant decision made." The email just told me to go check the portal and that's where I saw my acceptance! Best of luck to you!!! I hope you hear soon and that it is good news!!!
-
PsycD, I just checked and I got into McGill!!!! I might see you there!!!! My dreams are coming true :')
-
Trust me, I know. You're definitely not alone trejsi!!!

Hey paidean! Solid advice and I keep telling myself the same - but it's especially hard when basically your entire program has applied to SLP...every other conversation somehow goes back to acceptances, rejections, and how tormenting this wait is. But I've managed to stay calm and focus on other things..like finishing my thesis and graduating!
