  1. Hi all, hope you guys are doing well. I am currently applying for Ph.D in Economics to top 20 with a couple of safeties in top 25. As of now my situation is as follows: - International applicant with recognized international undergraduate institution, summa cum laude in Economics - MS in top 20 US where I caught up with some math work, including Real analysis, Theoretical Linear Algebra, Measure Theory, Differential Topology and Econometrics. GPA: 3.9 Currently taking PhD level Micro and possibly Stochastic processes next semester. Good ability with Stata and MATLAB. I have been a TA for Statistics, Intro to Business and a Market Dynamics courses. -I am working as a research assistant in applied economic research with a faculty member right now but I would like to get a taste of a pure full-time research position to see if research is suited for me. I was considering applying also for a 1-year pre-doc research position. I wonder if you guys know any suitable school that can, at the same time, give me a taste of how is to do research 24/7 and likely increase my chances of being admitted to top 10 econ PhD. Thanks, your help is really appreciated.
  2. I will be attending Cornell's MS in Applied Economics and Management. Anybody else in that program? Looking for roomates for the first year. I have been there during my undergrad as an exchange. Feel free to message me if you need help with info about the Campus.
  3. I have just received an offer of funding from Duke, right after I rejected their admission. The director of the admissions said they really want me to go there and asked how much would I need to accept their offer. Do you think this would have an impact on the situation?
  4. Does anybody have any suggestion? It would be very appreciated if you left a comment. Best, Nero
  5. Dear all, I just received my admission letters from Duke and Cornell. Situation is the following: 0) I am an international student from Bocconi University (Milan, Italy) and I graduated with honors in Economics and Management in the fall of 2013. I have to decide which school is the best fit considering that my medium term objective is to attend a Ph.D in Economics in a School like Stanford or Berkeley and eventually live and work in either San Francisco or L.A. 1) Cornell offers a MSc in Appllied Economics and Management while Duke an MA in Economics 2) For the first year there is no funding opportunity for either school so I might end up paying full tuition 3) Cornell appears to be more research oriented (the require also a final thesis) while Duke is stronger in the private sector and has great job connections. 4) The program at Cornell has 15-20 students while Duke has nearly 60. 5) I have been to Cornell as part of my exchange program so I already have a certain familiarity with the school and professors as well as friends there. 6) I would love to experience a completely new as I am an open minded person and I thrive in a stimulating environment (who does not?) 7) I would like to be a good candidate for the private sector in case I am not admitted to my dream schools. I would be happy if you guys wanted to share your thoughts and suggestions about that. Feel free to private message me. Best, Nero
  6. I don't know whether you are still interested in that program. I would say Bocconi holds a great reputation in Europe. On the other hand, the program itself is not focused on quantitative skills more than it is on organization aspects like people and project management. I would advise you to contact some faculty members to have more accurate insights. As far as I know, in Milan you would have great opportunities and contacts for high quality inyterships in the fashion business so it is really up to you to consider what you evaluate more, academics or job connections.
