  1. They don't have anyway you can check you status. I'm pretty sure it may come soon.
  2. I need one more school to apply to because 3 isn't enough nor is 4 I hear..lol I am interested in University of S. Cali. University of Michigan University of Albany St. Louis University I just didn't hear anyone talking about either schools I might just choose one from this list. I just haven't heard anything in particular and my gpa is a 2.91since i updated my transcript at school and was awarded the credit they fail to give me last semester. I haven't taken the GREs nor had a chance to study since I am taking 20 credits this semester I've only focused on the semester. I have a feeling that I won't do well on the GREs.
  3. Where are you headed to?
  4. Who cares about the ranking of the school? It shouldn't matter because its always the outcome of the education you gain. The question you should ask yourself is, Which is affordable for you? Do you still get to work on malaria? I am sure you can focus yourself and you should take project that are of interest. Don't make yourself busier then you need to be and I think they are very good schools. University of Florida is Nationally ranked at 49, but the school of PUBH is 29, anything in the top 50 is good to me. UF sounds like the better option, Which one do you really want to do Global Health Systems and Development or Epidemiology that will help you with your goal?
  5. Cool that's the program I chose, via sophas I'm conflicted because the amount of credits and I want to do environmental health too I am fine with what I have, which ever program allows me to go to the peace corps.
  6. Thanks a lot. What program are you choosing?
  7. So, I checked Iowa they didn't have want I want to study. It wasn't as affordable as I thought it was going to be. Thank you though
  8. I've sent an email and called leaving a message. Did not get a reply it's been over a month. I was just trying to figure out when there deadline is and according to SOPHAS it's 6/1 Do you need a supplemental application? I have questions and no answers
  9. I figured you were being a smartass. I just chose not reply to your sass. lol San Francisco is definitely different from NY city. You shall be fine I am looking into are Northwest Ohio Consortium of Public Health University of South Florida University of Minnesota University of Florida I was think i should have 1 more school, but nothing tickling my fancy yet.
  10. Yes it would be, but I am not from S. California. I was making an general statement . If I were him/her I would try to find an apartment not in the city, which Ichan helps you with. I only know this because my cousins graduated from there one did an MD and the other an MPH.
  11. If anything I would just commute from home...rather than getting an apartment. Or I would stay with family just to save cost. Apartments in the city are effin expensive...lol
  12. Wow!! Thank you I really appreciate you replying to this post. You did not have to and I am glad you did.
  13. You're right. MPH students are allowed to sublet a room for 1year in Aron Hall. Which is good since it's located across from the school. The 2nd year finding an apartment I would do since your going to be a little bit more familiar within the area. Mt. Sinai recommends this site: http://rotatingroom.com/ Mount Sinai’s single students are assigned to the Jane B. Aron Residence Hall, 50 East 98th Street. Each occupant has a private bedroom in a four or six-person suite which provides 2 or 3 shared bathrooms, a kitchen, and a living room. Units are furnished and furnishings may not be removed. Linens, towels, kitchen and bathroom supplies are not provided. Suitemates share one electricity bill for the suite. The building has doormen 24 hours, a laundry room, an exercise room, and a TV lounge. Each bedroom has a telephone jack and each occupant may arrange for private telephone service with a telephone company. Hope this helps.
  14. Sinai has apartments that are offered for their graduate students. http://icahn.mssm.edu/education/residencies-and-fellowships/housing/student-housing http://icahn.mssm.edu/education/residencies-and-fellowships/housing/resident-housing http://icahn.mssm.edu/static_files/MSSM/Files/Education/Postdoctoral%20Training/Housing%20Portfolio%20Map.pdf
  15. Good thing about online programs, you don't have to submit your GREs. It's also somewhat cheaper.
  16. I think it's risky. Applying to a non CEPH is a waste, because most jobs look to see if your MPH is accredited. It does sound tempting though. Marshall University has a Public Health program that isn't CEPH accredited but they are in the process. Who is to say when you graduate the program isn't accredited still. From what I know if your going to go to a non accredited school your best off with a non profit MPH program, an article that I read says that companies pay MPH holders more salary with a non profit degree. Idk how factual that is. Do those school have what you want to major in? Just because you an afford it means nothing if it does not have what you truly want to study. I say look at Florida, someone mentioned University of Iowa to me, they said its affordable. Again how far are you willing to go for your education and I think you should be realistic with the budget, just my opinion. Affordable Universities in my opinion Eastern Stroudsburg University (PA) (this is a bargain) Northwest Ohio Consortium of Public Health (Bowling Green State University and University of Toledo) (offer dual major) University of Florida West Chester University (PA) If i see anything else I will post it.
  17. I am in the process of feeling filling out my SOPHAS. I know I know I am little late in the game but this is my last year and I have a full-load this semester and on top of that I am studying for the GREs (which I will take again. I am a bad test taker). Anyway I've been through my SOPHAS list over and over, my major GPA is a 3.2 while my overall GPA is 2.83. It's low and I am aware of that I hate my school system classes that are 3,4,5 credits at other schools are 4,5,6 credits here like I was taking a science class or something. Anyway, I went to my preceptor and she said your GPA is low and no graduate school would accept that, so you should just work to gain experience. To tell you the truth my confidence I had just demolished into billions of pieces. She is aware that I am considering global health so she said I should just go to the peace corps or americorps to gain work experience for a year then apply. My complex director told me that she is wrong for saying that to a student and that I should not listen to her and apply. And I am doing so, I am maintaining a A avg in 3 out of my 5 classes, the other 2 is a B avg I am determine to leave this school with a 3.2 or 3.3, which will include my summer internship, which is a 5 credit class. My work experience isn't as far vast as most of you guys I am a founding member of Alpha Phi Omega @ my school (Petitioning Group) I served as Chapter Activity Representative for APO I am a Certified Peer Health Educator I am in the Public Health Society I am RA (Resident Assistant) I worked at Starbucks for 5.5 years I worked as a CATI (Computer and Technology Interviewer Schools that I am applying to Northwest Ohio Consortium for Public Health (NonSophas)-CEPH accredited University of Florida University of South Florida My question is Drexel really worthing the money? I did get accepted for their undergraduate degree when I graduated from community college. With the price tag at $62,500 including everything they only gave me half of that in financial aid and scholarships. The sucky thing about is their B.S is 180 credits so that would be another 3 yrs and $90,000+ debt. Now for graduate public health school their $47,000 +$14,000 for living expenses I think is for the year for 2 yrs $122,000 No thank you. I hear they are going to lower there tuition or except more people. Why don't they just do both? I don't think it's worth it. My friends want me to go their so we can all be together . I am going by what is affordable and won't give me anxiety . Does anyone know any other school still accepting applicants? I'm quite behind
  18. No problem. I know for St. Louis if your GPA is under 3.0 your GRE score has to be in the 40th percentile. That is what the person in admissions told me. I haven't taken them yet, so we will see. This is one of the schools I have applied to already: Northwest Ohio Consortium School of Public Health [they have regular and provisional admission]- CEPH accredited program [they do not use SOPHAS] SOPHAS University of Florida University of South Florida I have faith in you Colby the right school hasn't picked you yet..Good luck.
  19. Did you look into Graduate Assistantships? Honestly, I question myself all the time about that is the price tag worth me going out of state. It's a middle ground. I feel that I specified my major so much that I have to look outside of my state, but I can look for school closer to my state it won't make a difference in the price, it's just an easier access of getting home. Also I think that you'll know when tuition is too much. I really want to go to Tulane, I looked at the tuition, which included room and board it's 61,000 for the year. Also what I learned is that they pay 40% of the tuition (not too sure if this applies to graduate students, I know for undergraduates it is). Ex. If they did this for graduates by taking 40% off that price tag it would be about 24,000, which is not bad at all.
  20. Awwh.. I feel you will get into one of your choices Idk what schools have rolling admission except for Washington University in St. Louis University of Michigan (depending on the program) Saint Louis University University of Arizona After March 1, late rolling deadline until the program is full: MPH Environmental & Occupational Health, MPH Health Services Administration (Phoenix and Tucson), and MPH Public Health Practice (Phoenix) Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine If you know any, I would like to know as well. I only have 4 choices, my friend told I should have at least 2 more.
  21. Thanks. I actually started my SOPHAS application and started to select schools. What schools have you applied to? If you don't mind me asking. Has anyone heard any good things about University of South Florida
  22. Sorry to hear. Did you hear back from your other choices yet?
  23. USF has dual concentration and you can also individualized it to what suits you.
  24. Hello, I wanted to chime in because I went to see my advisor today. I must say she broke my spirits and I feel lifeless right now. She looked up my cumulative GPA and told me it was a 2.6. that the look I imagined in my head. I thought it was a lot higher then that. I went to look at it for myself it was a 2.8 which is 83%=B. I know it's not a 3.0 now I feel extremely discourage to apply to graduate school and she told me that I have to be realistic. I had my expectation way too high before, then again I have a history of doubting myself and I promised that with these solid 5 I will be fine. Now I don't feel as if I should waste my time. The schools are specific because I have an idea of what I want to do as far as my MPH goes. I haven't taken the GREs yet and my test taking skills are avg. I did take a practice test and I got 146 in V and 138 in Q, With a bit more studying I believe I can achieve a 300 on the GREs..well I hope I do. I plan to intern for an NGO in the summer time, since it's required for my undergraduate Public Health program I hold a leadership role as a Resident Assistant and I am a Certified Peer Educator I felt hopeful this whole semester, now I feel lost and unsure.
